There’s nothing like discovering a city through your children’s eyes and if you’re planning to visit Milan with your family you’re lucky - it’s one of the most child-friendly Italian cities.
Milan is filled with creative art sessions, children’s theatres, fascinating landmarks, fun parks and even cookery classes for the little ones.
Even better, most of the attractions are free to visit and children under 11 can travel free on the subway, trams and buses when accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket.
Check out the following list of the best things to do with children in Milan and use it on your next family trip to this beautiful boot-shaped country.
1.The Toy Museum
Located in Via Gianni Rodari, 3, this is one of the biggest toy museums in Europe.
It features thousands of vintage and handmade toys that date as far back as the 18th century as well as some more recent pieces.
This museum is a fun and engaging place for both the children and their parents and I’m pretty sure you won’t see any boredom on your kids’ faces there.
2. Enjoy La Triennale with your children
La Triennale - the famous design and art museum offers many interesting activities for their youngest visitors as well.It includes shows that aim to bring children and young people closer to the world of theater, dance, performance and music.
Try out La Balena - a special space inside the museum dedicated to children, where workshops, exhibitions, video reviews, meetings and presentations are held.
3. The Prehistoric Park
Just 20 km outside of Milan there’s the Prehistoric Park where you can meet the roaring dinosaurs and introduce your children to the history of those fascinating Mesozoic creatures.
It is open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM and children under 3 get in free of charge.
4. La Scala for children
Even the renomated, historical theater - La Scala, offers amazing attractions for the little ones. They present the great titles of the repertoire modified to temporal dimensions and adapted to child-friendly dramaturgical structures.
This fantastic project that turned out to be a huge success is a wonderful way to introduce our children to art and theater from the youngest age.
5. Cooking school
We all know how delicious is the Italian cuisine: pasta, pizza, lasagne and mouthwatering desserts are only some of the traditional dishes you’ll come across on your trip to Italy.
Milan is a perfect location to introduce your child to cooking classes where they can learn new flavours, socialise with their peers and gain new skills - all of that in a pleasant and fun environment.
Some schools offer courses for children and parents together which is a fantastic way to bond and make memories.
