Ooh I think I might've heard a version of the "frog well" story a long long time ago, to the point that I've almost completely forgotten it... But very recently I've happened upon the real life example of this behaviour in animals -- the so-called "Crab mentality", describing the behaviour of crabs in a bucket as those struggling to crawl out are pulled back inside by the lower rungs.
So I'm afraid it may be a natural instinct for some, and in the past I must admit I've felt some bitterness myself at what I saw as "abandonment". But I've learned to dissect, understand and negate this negative impulse (hopefully completely).
Rise above the animal nature, you are a being of greater purpose!
