Human's undying thirst to seek meaning seems an effort made subconsciously to escape from the reptilian mind. However we do seek it in even wrong places thinking it will get us somewhere but how you feel is a very effective feedback mechanism to inform you not there. You can say acquiring material goods comes from the reptilian mind but we also know that it's not about the material goods itself if we dig deeper. It's about the respect and love we crave from others. So I view all the human endeavors as trials and errors to get to the higher purpose. The physical dimension is a playground for us to learn, its the motive behind an activity that determines if it's a reptilian mind or higher consciousness mind that drives it.
