When I first started out in my career as a Special Education teacher I had an administrator who once told me something that I have practiced since that very day .
These words of wisdom have shaped my way of dealing with unfortunate or worrisome events since then. His exact words to me were, "If something is bothering you, get up and do something about it."
He went on by explaining that facing the issue will help to resolve the problem, and more than likely the problem will be go away or a mutual understanding of the issue will be nurtured.
Don't have any hidden agendas. To this day I find it almost impossible to move onto other matters in my life until I have addressed the problem at hand.
This is especially true when it comes to personal relationships. When a problem arises with a family member or friend, dealing with it immediately, doesn't allow the problem to fester, and in turn makes one realize that the issue is not insurmountably.
