ADB.Miner worm scans Infects android devices.
Last month researchers from Chinese spotted fake antivirus and Porn Andriod apps infected with malware that infects vulnerable Android devices at the cryptocurrency mine.
ADB.Miner worm scans can affect any type of Android device, including smartphones, tablets, and TVs.
According to the 360Netlab blog, the cryptocurrency extraction verb ADB.Miner has been actively infecting devices since February 5, successfully infiltrating 7,000 Android devices, mainly in China and South Korea. The researchers point out that the spread rate of ADB.Miner is high, with the number of scanned devices doubling every 12 hours.
The malware is broadcast using the publicly accessible Android Debug Bridge (ADB) on an open port 5555, which is normally closed. At the current stage of research, security experts say “we have no idea how and when this port was opened”.
Android Debug Bridge (ADB) is a command-line tool that helps developers debug Android code on the emulator and grants access to some of the operating system’s most sensitive features.
However, the researchers believed hackers are not exploiting any vulnerability that targets any specific device vendor since they found devices from a wide range of manufacturers impacted.
The researchers estimates based on the scanning IP addresses, the highest number of infection has been noticed in China (40%) and South Korea (31%).
