Curate

Curate might be my favorite word right now.

It might just be some kind of buzz-word, as I do think I have been hearing it a lot lately.

But, I think it's an important word: we curate so as so prevent hoarding, over-consumption, and making bad decisions.

Things that are well curated are always pleasant and attractive; I can't think of an example of which that is not the case.

If, like me, your goal is to reduce your financial spending, dietary consumption, and the amount of clutter in your life, then you will want to curate as much of your life as possible.

You can curate possessions, keeping only the most important and valuable. This prevents you from hoarding and retaining things unnecessarily.

You can curate your diet, so as to only be consuming foods that are healthy and ethical, etc. In other words, you intentionally eat what you know will contribute to your health positively (i.e. it has positive nutritional value or will positive affect your diet or will help you reach your target weight).

With your finances, you can curate what you spend your money on and how you spend it by asking, "Does this contribute to my goal of saving or getting out of debt?"

Maybe the word curate is synonymous with the notion of being mindful. That is fine because I view the ability to curate as a skill which we can all develop and improve upon, much like mindfulness.

To curate well is to demonstrate great discipline and to self-responsibility. Or maybe it's just another buzz-word.
