Whats up Steemit, madscientistx13 here back again for another tutorial this time on Siacoin Mining.

It is no Secret that Siacoin mining is going to change when the Obelisk asic miner is released, so lets get some mined NOW before that happens.
siacoin-asic-obelisk-sc1.jpg

Before we begin if you do NOT have a good GPU/Graphics Processing Unit/ Video Card. DO NOT mine Siacoin as you will be wasting not only your TIME, but also your MONEY. (I Recommend at LEAST an RX470, RX480/580 or GTX1060-1080).

Step 1 - go to http://sia.tech/
siacoin3.png
, click DOWNLOAD
siacoin4.png
and select your operating system I will only be covering Windows OS here.
Once you download the Wallet, install the wallet like any other program.
Now Open Sia-UI.exe let it sync to the blockchain.
Click Wallet
Click Receive Siacoin write down your Siacoin address, make a Text Document etc, store this address so you can easily find it when you need it, also Make a Password for your wallet by clicking LOCK WALLET.

Step 2 - Lets go to the Mining Pool we will be using to Mine Siacoin, I personally Use and Recommend https://siamining.com

Here is the link to getting started https://siamining.com/help
I will be using Marlin here https://siamine.com/marlin

Download and Unzip Marlin if it is zipped.

Right Click on Marlin.bat and click Edit

Inside it will say the following, if not copy paste

:: Batch file sample for Marlin
:: Written by Xurious for SiaMining.com
:: Sia Address: 00091d9619f1e697ddf80e751b68baffc444e7b59eeb54e131f136711d84aebf3bc6e0b820af
:: Updated 2016-08-12
::
:: Your Payout Address.
SET address=
:: Worker Name.
SET worker=
:: Intensity. Lower values may be better for normal desktop usage.
SET intensity=28
::
marlin.exe -u %address%.%worker% -I %intensity%

Ok Where it says SET address= Put your Siacoin address from before here.
Where it says SET Worker= put a name here whatever you like.

That is it save and close

Step 3 - Run the Miner , once the miner is running go over to https://siamining.com/
Type in your Siacoin Address under START MINING NOW , in the box where it says Enter Siacoin Address and then Click GO.

This will show your Hashrate, how much you have mined, etc.

Payouts are performed daily with a minimum threshold of 500 SC, or up to every 6 hours when over 1000 SC.

Let the Miner Run, and Earn you some Siacoin , its that easy.

I hope this helps someone get to mining, making some Siacoin, and Good luck to Everyone !

I really had high hopes for SIA but I believe Obelisk killed it. Now after the hard rest lets she were she goes

Seems like every day more and more ASIC devices are being created for various algorithms. But with SIACoin, that might be a downhill battle when they are released since the algorithm is so unique to SIA. Unlike other ASIC devices that could mine other coins with a similar algorithm, ASIC devices for SIA will most likely reach a dead-end much sooner than other ASIC devices.

But then again, who knows. It might be a great success for those that get into ASIC mining SIACoins, but then again that will put off people like myself that are mining the coins with GPUs while mining Ethereum (or other coins that are capable to be dual mined).

Thanks for the detailed explanation for mining siacoin but it does help me in understand the mining process although I probably wouldn't start mining yet until I learned enough to make sure it's actually profitable.

It all depends on your hardware, coin difficulty, price of power etc.

I've been making way more money mining HUSH to be honest! Check it out!

I'm afraid I would invest more into hardware than I would recover from mining. I ended up just buying 11K SC instead a few weeks ago when it was cheap.

is there a coin cap limit to SIA?

The current number of siacoins can be found at http://explore.siacoin.com also you can check on https://forum.sia.tech/
