In this post I will be doing a comparison between several popular GPU's. I am hoping to find the most cost efficient GPU for mining cryptocurrency. I will be comparing several GPU's using several different algorithms, which should cover most all GPU cryptocurrenies that can be mined. What I will show is the cost per hashrate and total hashrate per price of a 6 rig mining machine.
I will assume the following pricing below for the mining rig being used, and use current average pricing found on amazon. You should be able to find better pricing on ebay. Buying used will also help lower the price. I will add another comparison further below showing the same data with used parts off ebay.
The following cards and pricing found from amazon will be used. A 1600 watt power supply priced at $188 will be used for the 1080 and 1080ti pricing.
I will be using the data from WhatToMine.com for the GPU hashrates. The following shows the mining results for each card on each algorithm.
Below shows the price, or cost you are paying for each hashrate your rig is achieving. If you are the type that only ever mines one coin, which is usually just ethereum, the RX580 is the best deal. As for any other coin or algorithm, the 1060 is the clear winner. What surprised me is how close the 1080 and 1080ti are to being the best price per hash over all algorithms. As you can see, the 1060 6GB is the worst. The cost of the card vs the amount of hashrate you get is terrible.
From this data you can find the best card to use for the coin you are wanting to mine. Or if you're like me and mine many coins, its easy to see you cant go wrong using an Nvidia 1060. I hope this helps when building a mining machine.
