GPU mining only cards - NVIDIA - Sapphire - Asus. Are they worth it?

in #mining7 years ago

Currently, it's almost impossible to find graphic cards for mining cryptocurrencies. Unless you are willing to spend ridicules prices then you can find a few on Ebay or Amazon. To supply the demand, GPU manufactures are going to sell GPU mining only cards. These cards will have only one video output and designed for one purpose only..mining cryptocurrency.

AMD RX 470 and 560 Mining Editions in 8 GB and 4 GB are ready for preorder now.

These cards will have a limited 1 year warranty as they are usually pushed to their limits mining.

It's sounds great that there will be GPUs to on the market for us Bit-heads to buy, but are they worth it? Let's say we start buying these cards instead of the standard gaming cards. You start setting up 2,3, 4, 10 rigs all with these specialized mining GPUs. Then BOOM! the crypto market collapses and now you need to sell your cards to regain some of your investment. Who will buy them? At least I'll have gaming GPUs to sell to the millions of gamers out there or I can start a video rendering farm. The odds are better in the standard GPUs that I can sell these cards over the mining only cards.

Now, do I think there will be a crypto meltdown where there will be no need for these Mining only cards, not likely. There will always be something to mine. I thinks the safe money is in the standard gaming cards.

Let me know if I'm way off base on this.

The nvidia P106-100, based on 1060 gpu, has the same performance, price and consumption as GTX 1060. But you can not resell it to gamers, so I think it's better to stick to GTX 1060.

I know about P104-100 only that is based on 1070 gpu and it comes with a price of 350-400 usd. Probably it has the same performance as a GTX 1070. In that case it's better to look for the gaming versions.
