Hey folks, @furious-one here to make an important announcement about @MinnowBooster.
As the price of Steem grows alongside the Steemit social network, so do the number of spammers and abusers and con artists wanting to farm the network in one way or another for easy money.
Minnowbooster takes platform abusers seriously - we have been combating spammers and farmers for months. Starting from the middle of February, 2018 our developers have added some neat tools to our arsenal, which we will use in full force to combat farming for easy money. We will not disclose the exact nature off all tools available to us to keep an edge over abusers.
When boosting your posts, use common sense - does a copy-paste tech spec of a mobile phone really deserve to be in the HOT section. Or does a simple “selfie of me & my friends” really contribute to the platform and community that much, you should boost it to hundreds of dollars in post rewards?
Meaningful and Original Content is the Way Forward With @MinnowBooster!
Post length is subjective - If you work hard to get that special shot as a photographer, the audience can usually tell. Boost your internet-downloaded pics and boost them to hundreds and the community is bound to notice.
If you think we might have done you injustice, feel free to let us know in our Discord, and a team of people will review your case. We are not unmistakable and will look to find ways to fix problems.
Additionally - Minnowbooster currently does not allow boosting posts, which contain the tag “dmania”, “dlive” and “meme”. We have nothing against these tags and we love the occasional good meme or stream, but these are controversial topics among the Steem community, so please be aware of these restrictions, we will reject SBD sends for these tags.
This might be a good time to review our base Terms of Service:
We will be taking new measures to eliminate inappropriate use of our service. Abusers be warned, a new policy is being put in place and if you continue to upvote content that violates our TOS, we will be removing your upvote and declining a refund payout.
What constitutes abuse of @minnowbooster?
- Using multiple accounts to post duplicate content and purchasing MB upvotes for all of them.
- Same goes for using multiple accounts to post low quality content just to farm Minnowbooster for profits
- Upvoting posts with MB that are written in a copy / paste style.
- Using a MB vote for very short or repetitive content. Length is subjective.
Use discretion in upvoting posts, using a small MB upvote for short content may be okay under some circumstances but think about the content you are upvoting and decide based on the criteria we have laid out.
What is @minnowbooster’s new policy in dealing with abuse? Users who violate our TOS regarding upvotes will face the following consequences:
1.) Your post will be unvoted by Minnowbooster
2.) You will not receive a refund for the original upvote.
NB! User errors while using our upvote or delegation services are non-refundable. However, if it's within our means, we might meet you half-way.

This certainly is a massive step forward! It takes a lot to tackle spam. The effort by @minnowbooster team to curb bot abuse instills new hope in the platform and its ecosystem. The discussion surrounding upvote bots abuse unanimously demands actions to prevent bot abuse by spammers and plagiarists.

This step is very necessary to maintain the dignity of the platform. Spamming and the reward pool rape is increasing as the community is getting bigger day by day.
I like how minnowbooster is taking spamming very seriously. Most upvote bots are only in it for profit, luckily minnowbooster and some responsible upvote bots are working for the betterment of the platform by refusing to upvote trashy post. If this trend continue the community will be a lot better and we will be able to attract more people and investors. Definitely a win -win situation for Steemit.

Agreed. Some of us put hours into each post and it's annoying to see copy-paste stuff like this getting hundreds of dollars in rewards. At some point the upvote bot systems will need to implement some kind of reputation system that isn't abusable or too heavy-handed.
It's a responsible decision of you to promote quality over quantity. Coincidentally I was just discussing something similar in another post:
Mathematically speaking, if there is no disincentive discouraging people from abusing the system, a majority will typically gravitate towards abuse since it constitutes the natural Nash equilibrium. (Because even the average honest person will still experience the frustrating comparative disadvantage of not abusing the system and really begin to question his approach)
And -sadly but realistically- the most efficient method in order to condition good behaviour in people is to prevent those easy abusive stategies altogether.
Wouldn't stop the spammers entirely, they'll just find something else to waste everyone's time and resources with. It'd be nicer to take a spammer out back and then shoot them in the back of the head, but alas, that's not legal to do.

Why won't MinnowBooster allow upvotes for DLive?
I think this decision does not make sense for several reasons.
As the DLive platform grows getting a bot upvote can help advertise/boost a stream.
DLive actually takes effort. Most of my streams last from 2-3 hours and I see many people with even longer streams. Why can streamers not get rewarded for this. Not only do you have to count the stream time, but you have to account for the time it takes to set everything up to stream and create a nice thumbnail. Streaming is not cheap either! I have nice equipment to stream like a c920 webcam and Blue Snowball microphone that I have spent money on to improve my stream quality. And I am also planning on getting a computer that can handle better stream quality which will easily cost $700! I think it is totally fair to use MinnowBooster for DLive.
You can also upload videos to DLive just like DTube. But you can upvote DTube with MinnowBooster? That doesn't make any sense. DLive's most recent campaign is actually a video campaign for Valentine's Day!
These are just a couple of short reasons I want to put out to MinnowBooster and hopefully they might reconsider. Once again, why not reward streamers who put a lot of money and time into setting up quality streams.
dlive quality cannot be verified easily, as the streams are often oflline by the time you discover them.
I don't know of any cases of spam in the community. It is pretty small so you would notice it right away.
Once DLive allows to rewatch streams, we can consider adding it back. Until then all dlive posts are 3 word low effort with a broken video.
And sure it is sad that they can't be boosted, but you can record your stream, put it on dtube and boost that. That way we can at least watch it a day after :)
I find this an excellent idea; you guys are sacrificing your profitability for the sake of our community. You now are closer to other services like Smartsteem, which put quality and abuse counter-measures first.
Thanks for that, as someone who tries to put effort and quality on my posts I appreciate that spammers and con people do not have an advantage, no matter how much money they have.
Good job! our community is thriving, and this is the time to do the correct before we get rotten from the inside. All ourselves as users should exercise caution before supporting bots which allow abuses.

Can I boost my written poem? It's not lengthy but I gave all my emotions on writing those...
To be honest, i like your content. This is my personal opinion and not Minnowbooster's - i think photographers occasionally should maybe add a backstory if they post a single photo. Setup, why, emotions behind it. Just a single photo without a proper caption feels empty, unless it's really an awe-inspiring shot. Feel free to argue with me.
In my opinion, a detailed description of the work is sometimes counterproductive. The beholder should also let his own imagination come into play. I think it's better if questions are asked and than we can exchange our thoughts.
Yes, sometimes a photo is just enough. I guess we will look often at the big picture and overall quality of the poster and involve others in the final decision.
The best thing about art like photography is you let the viewers think of what's inside your head and feels what inside your heart by looking at your piece of work called "masterpiece" and even a dot in a white background can be more meaningful than thousand words. If you'll the explain the details and "whys" of the art, then what's the sense of doing it? I think you guys should sit on this and think it thoroughly because it seems something is missing with your discussions on your tables. Maybe you should consult an artist and ask why a painting most of the time is just a painting and the name or signature of the artist on it.
I will repeat, that this was my personal opinion. I don't have an eye for art yet i smell shitposts and farmers miles away, usually. We have a team that solves these cases, where one man's opinion is not enough, so we don't do injustice to good authors.

It would be nice if there were curators who have an overview of the art market or at least some expertise in the field of photo art. It's not that easy to judge the works anyway.

Glad to see some initiative like that... Spams and fake accounts are getting out of control lately :-/ And it's getting sophisticated. Just look at "blondeabroad": its basically a copy paste from the entries of an original blog, interspersed with gibberish like "-It was once only rediscovered in 1974 and has seeing that been dubbed a UNESCO World Heritage web site "....

Does that mean that the "spam detection" as you called it is managed by bots? Or do you have people (human beings) reviewing content?
I think that's a bit more than just using common sense. Copying content from the internet is a clear copyright abuse and would need to be punished in any case. It's not that content like this doesn't "deserve" to be trending, it needs to be removed (here: hidden).

@surfermarly we will go with a hybrid approach. We will have bots handle the detection and humans review them before taking any actions.
This way we guarantee not falsely accusing anybody.

Hmmm @surfermarly - I think you should really stop being aggressive against all bot guys here. As we all agree copying content from anywhere is not good and should be stopped and fighted against - but copyright laws are near to non existent -you will not win anything when it gets to court! Believe me! Steemit is not my first platform and that topic was / is discussed everywhere but a waste of time. Flag it but do not ask a lawyer to go to court, your money is lost. Copyright is not existing and also local regulated (if at all!).
I saw you were spamming various bid bot posts with accusations or a thank you for helping a certain post into trending - not their fault. If cheetah would work that would be on bot blacklists.
If you blame someone attack the people enabling linear rewards from last HF, that was the birth of voting services. Sorry for being direct but your crusade is attacking the wrong people in my view! You did not expect this from me - I never expected to write this as well!

I agree, but that's the job of Steemcleaners. The most we can do at minnowbooster is limit abuse of our services.
I think in a decentralized and self-governed community we're all somehow in charge to limit abuse the best way possible. I'm happy to see you're taking the first steps into that direction.
I absolutely agree! It's why I go spammer-hunting and report to steemcleaners when I have time (which hasn't happened in a while). It's a fun activity I recommend to all minnows looking to make some extra SP and contribute to the community by helping steemcleaners tag scammers and spammers so the bots can flag them.

The minnowbooster is a remarkable tool. It has helped me achieve my goal on a small scale. My dream to have pasiive income streams and Steemit has become one of my favorite streams. I like it because I get my payouts daily and systematically. I see this as my refuge from the labour of hard work so shoutout @minnowbooster!!!
I know it's rare, but what about posts analyzing memes? It's hard to not use that tag when it's apt. Then again, I guess for those rare cases, one could/should use another booster.

I still find the whole leasing thing confusing. Why, for example is the Maximum SP Lease / Steem lower than the Minimum? So confused!!! 😢
