Indiatimes got an opportunity to get up close and personal with the Miss World and trust us, she was just fabulous.
The first question we asked was what is that one question she has been dying to answer which no one has asked her yet. To our surprise she said,
“A lot of people have been asking me about my engagement. I am supposed to be engaged with someone, so actually I have been dying that someone should ask me about my engagement, because it’s even in Wikipedia page and it’s quite funny because I don’t even know who this person is, but I wish people would have asked me about it.”
So finally, she cleared the air and answered, “Do I look engaged? I am 20 year old”. Later she sarcastically said, “I actually want to meet this fiancée because he has made my parents life much easier”. Well, Miss Chhillar was in a chill mood to respond to all our queries.
Talking about turning her dreams into reality, she said, “It has been the most incredible journey, I just cannot explain that feeling when I was crowned as Miss World. It was beautiful and I felt like whatever I was dreaming was actually falling in place”.
Manushi is a medical student, no medical student have this dream of becoming Miss World, but she had, “ I was studying medicine, but I also knew that I wanted to be Miss India and Miss World, but I never knew that it will unfold like this. Becoming a doctor and Miss World is my dream come true.”
She is also a beauty with purpose, yes, Manushi started the campaign of menstrual hygiene in rural areas which is currently a big hit.
We asked Manushi what made her take this up, she explains, “ While growing up I saw a lot of incidents, I felt very bad to see poor menstrual hygiene , and I as a female, instantly got connected with it.
I have visited many rural areas where I felt extremely bad to see the lack of awareness on not using sanitary pads during their menstruation, because it’s not available in shops or they feel ashamed to buy it. I was blessed to have a family like this and get all the facility, so I thought someone should be there to help them and I took over the responsibility.”
We also asked her about Akshay Kumar’s Padman which is a real story of a man who started the awareness on the usage of sanitary napkins. She was delighted to see that even Bollywood is taking an initiative to create awareness,
“I am really happy that Bollywood is taking an effort in the direction on the hygiene bit, because entertainment does play a very important role. Bollywood is a huge industry and lot of people watch it, so it is a very good medium to reach out.”
Manushi’s big win of Miss World even stirred up the controversy on why till date, we appreciate only the outer beauty and not the inner one, and the winner has a whole different outlook to it.
“It’s good be opinionated, but more importantly informed to have that opinion. I really want to say that they should read, watch to know what Miss World actually stands for and then make an opinion about it.”
Talking about her favourite person in Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra, she said, “Long time ago, I wanted to become Miss World, but much later I got to know that she is Miss World. I have always admired her as a person and I like the fact that she is unapologetically herself.”
