Last night at UFC 224, one of karate's biggest standouts in MMA, Lyoto Machida, produced a KO of the year contendor. It was Vitor Belfort's last fight in the octagon & he happened to be on the receiving end of a brutal front kick.No follow up punches were needed as his body instantly folded into unconsiousness.
But this raises the question, could karate be making a comeback?
I believe it could & just maybe, if certain stars in MMA that use karate techniques continue to win, it'll inspire more fighters to study the art. Some of the stars that come to mind are Lyoto, Conor McGregor, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, & Darren Till. Some of these fighters are karate experts while the others I noticed use certain tactics from the art very effectively.
MMA is still a young sport & it's evolving constantly.I can only imagine the level it's gonna reach in the next few years.
