What a mmorpg can make you feel?

in #mmorpg5 years ago (edited)

For a few weeks now this has been in my head, maybe because I have been thinking and remembering some mmo that I used to play. I see the mmorpg like a good book where you can also get to meet people, follow a story, make friendships while actively maybe not living but enjoying an adventure. In my case I really love the feeling of discover new places, new zones, cities, dungeons, farming spots, game features and always amaze me what the developers, game and level designers can build, the thrill when you find a new weapon, or get a rare drop and also the bonds that you make with people that you meet in those worlds, could be from a random party or the guild that you are part for, even just by remember the sounds of those games can make me feel nostalgic but happy at the same time.

My first mmorpg was Mu online, by then I didn’t even owned a pc so I used to play in a cyber café that was all the time full of kids like my playing games.

I can’t remember anymore how I discovered (probably was installed in the café pc’s) but it was really fascinating for me how many players could be in a game at the same time, it was probably over 15 years ago and I still can heard the sounds of the beginning of the game, when you leave town and the first that you find are a tiny dragons with a weird way to howl and some minotaur and of course the characteristic sound of the ‘bless’, obviously when I started played there were already a lot of high level players, and it was amazing to look how my character would look later, the armors, the wings, the glowing weapons.

I even meet a girl in game, we had the same age and we were in the same city, being teenagers obviously we meet in real life after some weeks of chatting in game, by windows messenger (those times) and sms, for my surprise she was a beauty (to be honest I wasn’t expecting this but the worst case scenario hahaha) , but that is another topic.

Going back to the mmorpgs, the next one that I would recall is 9dragons, another Korean mmo with a kung fu theme, I meet a lot of nice people in this mmo from all over the world that were playing in the US server, I can remember the dungeons, the pvp and a weekly faction pvp event in the Bloody Plains that would grant to the winner the entrance for a limited time to a open world dungeon that was a tomb (The cave of the conqueror), and most of the mobs in there were terracotta soldiers.

There are still many other experiences that I want to share here but since this is getting way more extended that i thought it would be, I’ll split in 2 or maybe 3 parts for anyone that thinks that is interesting.

But I would like to know about what have you feel playing mmorpgs? There is something that have made your heart race up, maybe a war, a pvp, a rare drop or maybe exploring?
