Does PokemonGO show Nintendo's future plans? A focus on MOBILE gaming?

in #mobile8 years ago

There is no hiding the dramatic success of PokemonGo on mobile platforms.  Everyone is either playing it, or knows someone who is.  The game alone has risen Nintendo market value by over $9billion, and it seems to keep rising as well.

Does Nintendo's latest foray into the world of mobile gaming showcase what they are planning for their future systems and releases?

Nintendo's next big release looks to be their next console, codenamed the Nintendo NX, and with all major console announcements, the rumor mill is flying.  The NX is expected to be a 'merger' between both handheld and console platforms, with computing power similar to current gen offerings by Microsoft and Sony.  Bridging the gap between console and handheld seems right up Nintendo's alley, with drastic video game innovation such as the Nintendo64 or Wii, but does PokemonGo give us a taste of what else they may be planning?

Now since Nintendo has been very hush hush with their plans for the new console, and the raving success of PokemonGo...

What is preventing them from launching a new Platform for not only their consoles, but for mobile as well?  Even if you are not able to play current gen games on your mobile device, a way for you to buy games via their Virtual Console system on your iOS or Android device, or even earn extra points when you dont have the system on you/actively being played.

One of Nintendo's issues, is their inability to capitalize on older system/game sales due to Emulation.  Giving end users the ability to not only buy games direct from Nintendo, but being able to play them anywhere on your mobile device would have a similar effect that Steam or Netflix has had on Piracy.  Make a system that is easier, with less headaches for your customers, and they will flock to it

I'd love to know your thoughts on what Nintendo has up their sleeves.

Is it possible they will begin focusing on iOS and Android devices? Could we eventually be able to play Super Mario Bros on our smartphones, without it being a ripoff or 'illegally' emulated?

I think at this point, because of the market saturation of mobile devices, it doesn't quite make sense to create another gameboy or psp-like mobile gaming device. Everyone has a phone, and an app like PokemonGo is in part so successful because there isn't the need to purchase additional hardware.

With an app updates can be pushed to improve the game. I for one look forward to new updates on the app and improvements to the current performance.

Hardware makes fast updates difficult and I can see why they chose to stick to a mobile app. Gaming hardware has been a fairly tough sell in recent times.

A push for Nintendo games on mobile platforms would be great and possibly would revive interest in their content.
