Monday Mixtape: Feb 26

in #mondaymixtape7 years ago (edited)

postI recently came across @hardikv's on initiating this tag on Steemit: #mondaymixtape.

I got excited when I saw this post because let's face it, Mondays tend to challenge the strongest among us. And, when we overcome Mondays, we usually move on with battle scars to prove our victory. In a nut shell, Mondays bring out the worst in us, but when done right, surviving and thriving on Mondays are very much possible.

Part of the reason why I survive Mondays is music. I think Spotify is one of the greatest inventions ever, and my every day routine will not be complete without having to utilize this incredible platform. This is why discovering the #mondaymixtape tag is an ultimate (Monday)life-saver! I hope that through this tag, many people will be able to see Mondays as bearable.

Some quick rules for those who'd like to participate:

  1. Make a post with #mondaymixtape as your first tag
  2. Post links to 5 songs you like
  3. Tell us why you like them. Point out features that surprised you, stuff you learnt from the song, etc etc.

Note: The first thing that I notice in a song is the lyrics. I am fascinated with words and I am such a huge advocate of words used (whether written, spoken, or even made to be felt) beautifully. So, expect that my #mondaymixtape would usually contain songs with lyrics that I live for.

So there! I hope that my weekly #mondaymixtape will be able to help you guys survive your Mondays!

Here's my Feb 26 #mondaymixtape:

1. IV OF SPADES - Where Have You Been, My Disco?

I am OBSESSED with IV OF SPADES!!!! I love the fact that these guys are so young, yet if you listen to them, individually and as a whole, you can really tell that their age is just a number. Their skills are insane!!!! Unique's strong falsetto, Blaster's sick riffs, Zild's crazy bass lines, and Badjao's groovy drum beat make this song (or, actually, all their songs!!) a staple entry for a #mondaymixtape. I've read somewhere that the song is about a conversation between that of a younger generation and an older generation. So, lyrics-wise, this song also has its merits! And don't even get me started on this song's music video!!! Awesome colors, excellent props choice!!!! Their poker face is very on point too!!! Really, I can't imagine anyone not dancing to this song! I am a non-dancer and even I can't help but to dance to this!

2. Jason Mraz - Make It Mine

This is one of the songs that I have as my alarm every morning. I guess the lyrics have something to do with the feeling that this morning (yes, including a Monday morning) is going to be the start of an awesome day. This song is perfect for setting the mood every morning, because the lyrics basically tell you to wake up and not miss out on what the day would bring. Of course, the title of the song brings it home. "Make It Mine" tells us to take risks and pursue whatever we want to pursue...and it all starts with waking up!

3. Panic! At The Disco - Ready To Go

I've always liked every song that Panic! releases, but I think Ready To Go is one of the songs that are essential for Mondays. As the title would obviously imply, the song is about taking the leap of faith despite uncertainties and challenges. Because surviving Monday is in itself a risk, this automatically earns a spot in my #mondaymixtape. Such a catchy song too!

4. blink-182 - First Date

One of the defining features of my childhood is blink-182. While I don't think the lyrics is relevant to surviving Monday, but, hey, this is blink 182! When you're like me, the lyrics won't really matter, as long as it's your favorite band! Hehe. Occasionally, I would listen to blink-182 to remind me of my roots. And First Date is one of those blink songs that really exemplify everything we love about blink-182.

5. The Killers - Mr. Brightside

Aside from Jason Mraz's Make It Mine, Mr. Brightside is also one of the songs that I use for my alarm every morning. In fact, I owe most of the mornings that I managed to wake up on time to hearing that distinct guitar riff that we all know. This song is probably the most popular song of The Killers. While most of an artist's most popular songs get overplayed and eventually get too annoying to listen to, I'd say Mr. Brightside is one of those songs that you don't really get tired of. It's such a classic that I know is here to stay! (Whether as an alarm, or for other purposes!)

How about you? What songs comprise your #mondaymixtape?

Sort:

The IV of Spades sounds very interesting. From Philippines? Nice to be reminded of The Killers, a great track.

Yes, IV of Spades is one of the up-and-coming indie bands in the Philippines. They currently have 4 songs on Spotify! I highly recommend listening to all 4!

Ok, I'll have a look. :-)

I love this challenge! Will listen to you reccos! Hope I can post my #mondaymixtape soon.

I am excited to check it out! :)

In the carrrr, I just can't wait.
To pick you up on our very first date~💕

blink-182 does not get old!!!!!

I am discovering so much new music! And the best part is reading WHY people like those songs. It is very enlightening as a songwriter and producer. 🍻✨
Cheers!Wonderful! Thank you for using #mondaymixtape and participating.

Thank you for starting this tag! I hope you would enjoy listening to the new music you discovered through #mondaymixtape!
