I always forget which color is for which day, but it's never too late for a bit of RED! Strawberry Shortcake to be exact. OH...and let's not forget FATHER's DAY!
Gardendaughter was home for father's day as was one of the gardensons. SInce I was driving all day from a visit with my own 90-year-old father, Gardendaughter made the whole dinner (BBQ chicken and shrimp, grilled pineapple, corn waffles, yumyum salad made of tomatoes and peaches and mint and basil and chopped pistachio on arugula.... and....
STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE!
Lame-o once again in the photog department, but here's a taste...
A look at dinner plate:
and
The Beautifully-set dinner table. Note the flowers from my garden: astilbe, geranium Rozanne, hydrangea, and salvia
For dessert.....THE STRAWBERRIES for the shortcake can be seen above. I believe they were tossed with a bit of sugar and maybe lime or lemon
Assembling the shortcake...gardendaughter made the cakes using only Crisco, no butter, since she has an allergy to dairy. SHe also opted out of the whipped cream.
And lastly...the strawberry shortcake with a mint leaf garnish. It paired well with the red wine ;0)

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful father's day as well,
Happy gardening and cooking everyone!

A beautiful day celebrated so beautifully and in a delicious way :D
yep!
All looks so yummy...
It's been too rainy to pick strawberries here, they'd be all watery and tasteless. Hoping for a run of 2 -3 days with no rain before the end of the season.
good luck with the strawberries=- most likely the ones we used came from California. And it's been SO rainy! good for some things, not for others.
Strawberry shortcake is one of the pleasures of summer. Simple and yet so divine. :D
