Monero Meetup

An invitation for readers in the Netherlands: I'm organizing the first Monero Meetup in Utrecht, this ~~Friday~~ Thursday in Bar De Stadstuin, Europalaan 20, from 19.00 to 21.00. The theme is Monero Market: I'll give a short talk about the various Monero apps for your phone, and we'll practice using them by buying and selling stuff. If you don't have one yet, you can use wifi to download an app. Please bring something you'd like to sell for a symbolic amount, as long as it's legal and not too big - maybe a Steem button or sticker?

But mostly this is a borrel. I want to meet people from the Monero community IRL, have a drink and snacks (there will be bitterballen). Maybe we'll discuss my Monero-related translations, and I hope I can get people drunk enough to sing "A Million Dreams" for Bitcoin's birthday.

You don't need to sign up, we'll find a spot for you at the big table in the front room. But you can RSVP to the Facebook event for visibility. Unfortunately, the meetup group was banned by meetup.com because the Monero Market theme was too commercial for them. I understand that they have to deal with grifters, like MLM schemes, but this underscores the problem of depending on a centralized service.

I want to have regular meetups, always on the second Thursday of the month in the same place. I decided to change the schedule to one meetup every other month, so I can put more effort into creating a special event. This means that the first three dates will be: January 10, March 14, and May 9.

Someone else tried to organize a Monero meetup in Amsterdam, and the self-help theme was fun, but he had difficulty finding a venue. So I decided to use the place where I'm already renting office space, which has a number of advantages:

You can drink beer and listen to a presentation with slides in the same room.
I'm there already. The first three meetups will go ahead no matter how many people show up.
De Stadstuin is in the city near the center, but you can park your car for free in front of or behind the building.
