Good evening Steemit!
One person who I've always looked up to is the Oracle of Omaha better known as Warren Buffet . Buffett is a legend in the world of finance and widely regarded as the most successful investor in history.
Growing up however, Buffett was not a star well-behaved student who was loved by his teachers . Rather he was known as a pest and a troublemaker among teachers. Buffett however did show signs of brilliance as he was already running successful business in his teens.
When it was time for college Buffett went to the renowned Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. At Wharton, Buffett was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Buffett did not complete his full degree at Wharton however, as he transferred over to the University of Nebraska as a business major where he finished off his undergrad.
Buffett eventually decided to go for his post-grad and applied to Harvard, however Harvard rejected the future billionaire. Buffet said he was 10 minutes in to his Harvard interview when they told him "forget it, you're not going to Harvard" . Instead Buffett went on to complete his masters at a Columbia University where he received his masters in economics and met one of his most mentors, Benjamin Graham. Buffett later recalled that getting rejected from Harvard was one of the best things that ever happened to him as it allowed him to meet and become close with Graham .
For me what I take away from this story of Buffett's early days is to never get too down on yourself in the face of rejection . When a door closes on you, you cannot give up and in fact you might even be lucky enough to find yourself in a better position after the rejection. Buffett is a perfect example as his rejection from Harvard could have completely destroyed his confidence on his abilities, but he quickly got back on his feet and kept applying to other top university. In hindsight Buffett getting rejected from Harvard served as a key stepping stone in his future success, a thought which probably seemed ridiculous to him at the time!
