Hello Steemit community! I know it has been awhile since my last post. I was actually torn on what to post. I was thinking of showing you how beautiful country is or how traveling can keep you calm. But now, as you have read the tittle of this post. I'm just gonna share with you my recent frustration... by recent I actually meant NOW. You see, just now, my coins.ph just got hacked.
For those of you who are not familiar with coins.ph, it is a financial platform here in the Philippines that allows you to pay bills online, buy load online, send or receive money, buy game credits, or even buy bitcoins. It is like an online wallet for many, it's like a bank account. For me, I use it to transfer my steemit earnings. That is actually where I transferred the first payout I got from posting here. I stored it as a bitcoin in my wallet and late converted it to Philippines currency, PHP.
I am not sure if I can really post this here but since I am vert frustrated right now with no family and close friend in range. I decided to share with you my "just-now-I-got-hacked" story.
Around 4:30 today, I received numerous verification code for unauthorised activities. All of it are codes needed to cash out my money in my coins.ph wallet. I, then, went online and checked my coins.ph account but lo and behold. IT'S EMPTY. All my money in my coins.ph wallet is gone. And as a normal (girl) human being, I cried. It wasn't that much but for someone who have no support from family whatsoever. It is still big deal. I planning to use that money to buy myself a ticket and visit my parents. Spend a good whole week at home and maybe treat them with a good meal but not anymore. It is supposedly my spare money but not anymore. Sucks, right?
But you know what? What's is more frustrating is the thought that "What if I have more in that online wallet?" I would be DEVASTATED. I know that isn't the right place to be posting this but maybe I just want to share that life is really not fair, I want to show you the ugly parts of my life and that we should all be careful. The world of online is a tricky place.
This is not a post to criticise coins.ph but for those of you here, who have been using coins.ph should be extra careful. I don't want you to experience what I just went through. And for those who experienced the same thing, those who got their accounts hacked, please let me know what actions you did and if necessary actions were done.
I did a report on this incident. I emailed coins.ph so for those curious of what coins.ph will do, I will surely let you know.
XOXO,
Cristy
kasayang gud ☹
Hi Cristy, is your account 2FA enabled?
Hi, actually no. The thing is, I was new so I dont know about it. :(
It's not too late. Although sayang talaga. I recommend you to still continue your blog it has so much potential. With regards to security naman, always use 2FA for coins and only use your steemit posting key if you're authoring a post. Never use the master key.
