A Look At The Most Crypto-Friendly Nation

in #money6 years ago

A recent survey was conducted that sought to analyze the impact of cryptocurrencies worldwide, by financial giant ING, and their report titled Cracking The Code On Cryptocurrency suggests that Turkey might be one of the most crypto-friendly nations today.

In their report they looked at 15 different countries and they asked over 14k respondents their opinions about whether they had ever heard of cryptocurrency, whether or not they owned any, and so on.

The countries included places like Italy, Germany, Turkey, Spain, USA, Australia, Belgium, and other regions.

When asked whether they had ever heard about cryptocurrency, about 70 percent of the respondents from Turkey said 'yes'.

Awareness was the most prevalent in countries like Australia, Austria, Poland, Romania, Italy, Germany, and Turkey—each had above 70 percent respond 'yes'.

As far as ownership in Turkey, it's estimated that 1 in 5 own some cryptocurrency. Compare that to Europe overall, for which it's estimated that about 1 in 10 people own cryptocurrency. Turkey had about 18 percent of their respondents report 'yes' to owning some digital currency, they were the highest. Followed by Romania with 12 percent and Poland with 11 percent.

The survey did also suggest that the results might be biased towards younger professionals who have more exposure to technology and media.

Will you own some cryptocurrency in the future?

When asked this, again Turkey had the most respondents say 'yes' with about 45 percent. They were followed by Romania again at 38 percent, then Spain at 32 percent, Poland at 29 percent.

Across Europe overall, it's estimated that 1 in 4 people expect to own some cryptocurrency in the future.

We know that there are many people involved in this space for investment purposes, but what about using cryptocurrency to pay for everyday purchases, monthly bills, or school fees? When asked about the possibility of using Bitcoin or some other alternative to make these sorts of purchases, about 20+ percent of respondents said that they would be open to moving in that direction, with more than 40+ percent saying they don't want to adapt their current payment methods.

Many said that they thought there would be too much risk involved with paying this way. A majority of respondents said that they saw cryptocurrency as being much riskier than government bonds, gold, real estate, or even fiat currency.

For those who are ready to get involved in the cryptocurrency space, the survey asked respondents where they might turn to for some advice: friends, websites, financial advisers, etc.

For the European consumer overall, 27 percent of respondents said that they'd go to a specialist website related to the topic in an effort to find out more, 21 percent would head to a financial adviser, while 29 percent said they'd never invest in this space.

So what's the scene in Italy? How are they doing with crypto?

I did not imagine that Turkey, Romania and Poland are leading these surveys

I have noticed european countries that have struggling economies seem to have a lot of hodlers which makes sense given people's lack of belief for traditional monetary systems like the euro.
