I spend a lot of time on Youtube... Like... A lot of time. I learn best from visual/audio sources so Youtube can teach me almost anything.
In my meanderings around the site I come across things that are hidden gems, old and burried. Things I'm sure many people remember, but as the years have gone by, they have new meaning.
Both of these videos are produced by Jamie Johnson, heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune.
This first one was filmed in 2003 and explores what the children of wealth think about the world they were born into
Born Rich
The second was filmed in 2006 and explores the widening wealth gap in America and what the 1% thinks of the wealth disparity.
The One Percent
The world that these films were created in has fallen away to a new paradime, I would be endlessly interested to see what a film with this level of honesty would reveal in today's world. Even if these films are from a bygone era, they still cast light onto the inner workings of the world of the 1% and I am grateful for them.
Something I find facinating is that Jamie's father funded a similar movie about apathide in South Africa when he was young. His father was admonished heavily by the Johnson & Johnson company and now he only talks about money in hushed and hurried tones. Now, 10 years on, we have not heard from Jamie again. Could it be that he was admonished in much the same way his father was? Maybe he saw the light of Trickle Down Economics? Perhaps, after he rebeled a little bit he settled comfortably into his place in the dynasty?
I can find very little on Jamie after these two films (more specifically I can only find 2 film cameos). Was he sucked into the Elite's world? My guess is yes. He has still left us with very interesting documentaries about how the 1% think.
