"The Seven Cures of a Lean Purse" - Part 2 of 7

in #money7 years ago (edited)

Hello my fellow steemian!

When I introduced myself here in this platform, I have told you that I would contribute financial literacy here in Steemit. With that, I would gladly share to you that I am working together with @smaeunabs and @jcvertucio in pushing an official "Financial Literacy Campaign". This campaign is not only limited here in Steemit but we are also extending it to personal meet ups and conversations over coffee.

It's primary objective is to spread financial awareness + Steemit & Cryptocurrency awareness to our fellows. We are not experts, but we have the heart that is more than willing to help spread the word about financial literacy. We may be young and do not have great financial success to show you... yet, but we are geared with experience and have read books to help us gain knowledge and wisdom to share to you. Hoping to gain support from you and may you come with us in this journey.

This series of "The Seven Cures of a Lean Purse" taken from The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason, is one of my contributions for this cause. May you find this helpful and useful as it did to me.

Money has existed long before banks and other monetary institutions were established. We may haven't known it but money is plentiful for those who understand the simple laws which governs its acquisition. Til today, it is governed by the same laws which controlled it when prosperous men walked the streets of Babylon, six thousand years ago.

I have already posted the First cure and I know some of you may ask how can we use only nine-tenths when all the money we earn is not enough for the necessary expenses? Let me tell you, we may earn different amounts of money through our different ways of acquiring it, commonly through salaries but at the end, we still end up broke or yet, the money we're left is not enough to get us through to the next payday. True? Relate?

"Some earn more than others. Some have much larger families to support. Yet, all purses were equally lean. Now I tell you an unusual truth about men and sons of men. It is this; That what each of us calls our "necessary expenses" will always grow to equal our incomes unless we protest to the contrary." - Arkad

Allow me to continue to share to you the Second of the SEVEN Cures of a Lean Purse:

▪️ Control thy expenditures.
Budget thy expenses that thou mayest have coins to pay for thy necessities, to pay for thy enjoyments and to gratify thy worthwhile desires without spending more than nine-tenths of thy earnings.

Source

This second cure is to support the first cure. In order to continue to fatten our purse, we must be diligent in controlling our spending. So as to really retain the one-tenth of our earnings.

It is always important to budget our money. This is the time where sacrifice and discipline plays. I, myself had a hard time in budgeting and following the budget, too. But the good thing about practice, is that, it can train us until we would be used to it. In budgeting, we have to weigh between needs and wants. May we not confuse necessary expenses with our desires. But may we remember that is never wrong to reward ourselves, we just have to set limitations.

"Thy desires are multitude and those that thou mayest gratify are few." -Arkad

Take note, no one is in charged in budgeting our money aside from ourselves, because it is relative to our respective goals that we set for ourselves for the benefit of those who are important to us. Let us keep working on our budget and let us keep adjusting it to help us.

Disclaimer: Me sharing to you these doesn't mean that I have successfully followed it all, but I am applying it. Well, it doesn't work over night and it won't. It entails sacrifice and discipline. Believing and following these are all up to you.

Thank you so much for following this series! Keep posted for the next one! 💕
