In China, Uber is now merging with its largest rival, Didi Chuxing. It is actually doing so because it was unable to stay competitive with the local competition.
The days of a business bringing their model to China and expecting to run away with it is over. However, we cannot take away the disruption that uber has brought to the planet as a whole. Without them, there would be no rewriting of laws, or the efficiency increase of incumbant taxi drivers.
In order for markets to display some sort of free-market capitalist ecosystem, there needs to be some disruption to keep everyone on their toes and not get complacent.
I agree. uber has already strongly disrupted a market, it is probably worth al least $30b and there is no need to protect them too much from competition or regulation. Let them walk with their own legs following reasonable regulations.
