Meet the New Boss (Same As the Old Boss): Apple Has Told Jaxx To Remove DASH From Its iOS Wallet - Your Favorite Currency May Be Next

in #money8 years ago (edited)

This is not a good development. Seems that Apple is exerting its power over developers of crypto-currency wallets by telling them which tokens they may or may not include in the Apple iOS app store. This is disappointing to me personally, as I have recently started mining the DASH currency (8th largest by market cap). I set up a wallet through Jaxx to receive the coins I mine. Also bad news if you're hoping for integration of STEEM or any other currency into future products, or if you are just a proponent of unfettered innovation, choice and free markets.

Today, I’m reading reports that Apple has told Jaxx that DASH integration is not allowed on the iOS platform. What?

Here’s the tweet sent out this morning from Anthony Di Iorio:

Apparently, Apple also took issue earlier this year with Jaxx integrating Ethereum Classic (ETC) into its wallet after the DAO collapse and the Ethereum hard fork that resulted in competing versions of the Ethereum token. However, they later backed off. I hope they see the light this time as well. Does anyone else see a problem with Apple bullying independent developers by telling them which tokens they may or may not include in their products? Clearly, they are willing to sacrifice their customers' privacy when it suits their needs, or to please the higher powers that even Apple answers to.

Apple’s heavy-handed approach is bad news for crypto-currencies and troubling for anyone supporting freedom, innovation and privacy. It also increases my sense of urgency to break away from a financial system that is controlled by the elite few. This looks like nothing more than a move by Apple to protect itself from competition in the future so they offer a watered down, proprietary digital payment system that will serve the company’s profit motives, but which will have none of the features that are so important to the crypto-community: a decentralized, censorship-resistant and immutable record of transactions. It is also a transparent attempt to win the favor of financial regulators the company will need to deal with in future. Definitely this is a step in the wrong direction, and the incentives are aligned against freedom-loving citizens.

strange maybe someone paid them off!

Well at least we know where the line is being drawn. It will continue to suck for a while, but they will crumble when they are left with a bunch of customers that cannot afford their products. Anyone with half a brain knows decentralized development is going to win......it already has, we just haven't seen the full effects. Just keep building amazing software on everything else and just plan on not including IOS in your plan for a while.

Yet another reason to go for Dash
