You look down at the bursting supermarket aisles. Each row filled to the brim with products competing for your money. As you make your way through the aisles, something catches your eye. You look down at the shelf...Doritos on special for $3!! Save $2!! What a bargain that is!!!
You look down and open your palm. In it sits a small circular object representing $1. You realise you can't afford the doritos and then while your stomach rumbles with a desire for the orange corn chip - a combination of high-fructose corn syrup, sugar, soybean oil and a list of unpronounceable preservatives - your mind begins to wonder what your dollar could buy across the globe...
Colombia: Three Arepas Stuffed with Cheese
Turkey: 3 bottles of water
Canary Islands : 1 Dorada Especial beer/cup of coffee
Austria: A freshly baked Kornspitz (a kind of bread roll)
Nepal: Momo (ten piecess of dumpling) and a 250ml of coke
Denmark: you can get a litre of milk
Croatia: One Large Scoop of Ice Cream
Vietnam: One hat/One DVD/Three pairs of flip sandals/Five instant noodle packages or snacks
India: A hearty meal of boiled rice, dal, vegetables, pickles, chutney and papads in a Kolkata 'basa' (usually all you can eat)
Costa Rica: One papaya/one watermelon/one pineapple
If I were you...I'd put that dollar back in your pocket and start saving for a one way ticket...
Please share what you can buy with $1!
