I was chatting with an artist recently (online) and they wrote..
“Mindset work around money” is somewhat flimsy as an outlook, when you are all for one and one for all in a saturated music industry”.
Do you believe the same thing? If so, you could be doing yourself a massive disservice.
I understand that artists today are very busy - you have to be band manager, tour manager, social media manager, creative entrepreneur, and people manager.
Time for creativity is often overlooked when you’re your own record label.
It’s really tough to juggle everything. The most important thing is awareness of what’s going on. We can’t change what we’re not aware of.
With awareness brings a lot less struggle, a lot more ease, and a lot more financial income.
You can come to a lot of awareness by taking time to journal and uncover what’s going on in your psyche.
However, I believe it’s vital to investigate what type of beliefs you have around money - given that you have sole responsibility for generating this thing called money for your survival.
Many of us are carrying unconscious beliefs about money that don’t serve us and with a little work inside our own mind, we can shift a lot of things in our favour.
We’re not taught how to manage money incrementally as we grow up so we pick up things as we go along including others (unhelpful) beliefs.
There are two key areas around beliefs:
Beliefs create a vibrational frequency which attract “like” circumstance
If you hold the belief ‘I only can ever earn $300 for a gig this year’ then you are sending out that vibrational frequency into the Universe and like a boomerang that’s what you will receive back. Thoughts are things.
The opportunity for better paying gigs might be in your energetic vicinity but you might push it away in order to stay in alignment with your dominant belief system. Our minds like to be right.
(So that on Dec 31 the mind can say to itself “See? I knew I’d never earn more than $300 for a gig this year. I was RIGHT!”)
It feels good and safe. And we like the status quo.
Beliefs are passed down inter-generationally
Think of your family lineage for this one - the circumstances surrounding your parents and grandparents lives and what beliefs THEY had about money. This will greatly influence you. We take on these beliefs out of loyalty regardless of whether they serve us or not and we continue on our lives with these beliefs lodged within us.
If your lineage system thinking was one of ‘artists starve’ (which is quite a prevalent belief) then it will grate on your system to believe the opposite. It will cause cognitive dissonance. There may even be a sense of betrayal or guilt.
It will take some undoing to re-program to a healthier belief but it can be done.
Here’s some questions to help with this:
How much are you allowed earn as an artist?
Do you have permission to earn $150k + as a singer songwriter?
What are you afraid would happen if you earned $150k + as a singer songwriter?
Be honest. You’d:
Lose all your friends.
Become insufferable.
Be out of control.
Lose your current fan base.
Alienate people.
Or
You feel alone now but you’d be even MORE alone with all that money.
Others would be jealous.
You’re not good with money so you’re afraid you’d waste it all.
Something else?
I hope this has been helpful food for thought! There’s a myriad of tools available to help transform old unhelpful beliefs so you can live a happy life where you get to do what you love and are able to support yourself.
It’s one of the areas I help my 1:1 clients with. Feel free to get in touch for more information and specific personal guidance.
