Hello steemit,
in this tutorial I want to show how easy it is to withdraw ETH (Ether) from POLONIEX exchange to an online wallet account on https://www.MyEtherWallet.com.
I strongly recommend to withdraw all funds invested in the PermaCryptoFolio experiment from Cryptocurrency exchanges to avoid loss in case of a hack of the exchange.
The screenshots are taken from the FLIPPER portfolio, which is traded on Poloniex exchange.
In the next days I will continue this tutorial series, because there are still a lot of funds on Poloniex I need to draw out into my own wallets.
Create new MyEtherWallet.com account
I don't like the fat native wallets that require to download the full blockchain of a cryptocurrency. Instead I always try to use online wallets when possible. In this tutorial I use the MyEtherWallet.com wallet.
Open MyEtherWallet.com in your browser, set a secure password and click "Generate Wallet" link. Double check if the URL is correct. There are a lot of phishing sites out there, with similar domain names and different top-level domains like ".co" instead of ".com".
Immediately a new wallet is generated and shown on the page. Write the private key (under 1.) and your ethereum wallet address (under 2.) down to paper and store it in a safe location, best practice is to store copies of the key on different locations! If you loose the private key, you will loose the access to your Ether. Also be sure that there is no keylogger or virus running on your PC!
Note: The private key shown here in this example is not the key I use for storage of my Ether. Do not waste your time with trying it out.
Log into Poloniex
Now, log into your poloniex account and click "BALANCES" in the menu bar and than "DEPOSITS & WITHDRAWALS".
Search the coin to withdraw
This webpage opens. I recommend to click the "Hide 0 Balances" checkbox, to see all your assets. Search for ETH (the shortcut for Ether(eum)) and click the "Withdraw" link on the right side of the page.
IMPORTANT: Do not mix up Ethereum with Ethereum Classic here! In this tutorial I withdraw the ETH Ether (the hardfork chain ether) to myEtherWallet.com. In my next tutorial I show how to withdraw the ETC Ethereum Classic (the nonfork-chain) to classicEtherWallet.com.
Some input fields become visible now. File into the "Address" inputbox your Ethereum address (from the MyEtherWallet.com account). Important is also the Amount field, where you need to enter the number of Ether you want to transfer. If you want to transfer all Ether you can simply click the number of Ether on the left side behind "You have .... ETH".
Please double check the correctness of your inputs. In case of errors you will loose your coins.
Finally click the Withdraw button, if all inputs are correct.
2FA
If you have 2FA enabled for your poloniex account, you first need to authorize the withdraw by entering your 2FA code. This step is not shown here.
Confirmation Mail
You now receive an email from Poloniex. If you click the link inside the Mail, the following webpage will be opened in your browser and the withdraw will be started.
Wait
Now wait some minutes until the Poloniex Withdrawal History shows your transfer.
Done
Check your myEtherWallet account if the funds have arrived. Alternatively you can use the etherscan.io service to see the transaction.
Great info thank you
Great info. Much needed as we see lot of exchanges been hacked recently.
Thank you very much
Thank you very much for taking the time to share this. I have been using exchanges like Poloniex and am now looking to migrate a bit off of them. It is daunting. Have you tried EtherDelta via MetaMask? I was searching for a tutorial about that specific platform, but ended up here!
Cool, thanks a lot! Which coin do you prefer and why: ETC or ETH?
I have no opinion about ETC vs ETH. I participated in Ethereum ICO and was a big Ethereum fan boy, but after the TheDAO-hack and the fork I'm out of this mess. 2 weeks ago I splitted my prefork ether (what a hack, even for me with IT background) and sold both (ETH and ETC).
My opinion: One of the 2 chains must die, otherwise both have no futures. I dont want to care about reply attacks and such things. Or can you tell me on which chain DigixDAO and Argur are currently running ;-)
BR,
twinner
Thanks!
No, it's getting just too complicated. I'm invested in ETC and had some losses but am not willing to sell at this price ;-)
Great tutorial. Followed your step, but there is no ETH showing up in my myetherwallet and txid doesn't exist on etherscan.io. What could happen ?? are my coins gone forever ?
Same here
Same, i just found this post about this problem: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1963752.0
Thanks for informing
There are many testimonies over forums about the ETH withdrawal problems. What's your experience on this?
