Snowy Past Monochrome Monday

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to post some photos of some snow in the past, while we may be getting some in the near future!

Snowy Past Monochrome Monday

Snow is definitely one of the controversial things for a lot of people who live in places that have seasons.

There are lots of people who enjoy it, like myself, and there are lots of people who hate it with a passion. I find it interesting that something so natural, is also something so disdained. We should really learn to appreciate more things, honestly!

We may have a little bit of snow in the forecast where I live, and I think that's a good thing. Not everybody, even in my own house, agrees with me on that hahaha. Where we live, snow is a fact of life I think. It's something we've always had and will likely always continue to have. It is geographically important because it helps drive a lot of other natural things that the ecosystem has evolved to be able to do. When we don't have snow at all, which could mean it was too warm or just not enough moisture, we don't get some of those benefits.

It's been a pretty dry season the past few months which is not unexpected. It happens in cycles, but with that comes lowering of the rivers and reservoirs. I think that is likely going to have other impacts in the near future to the area but I am hoping the lack of rainfall that we had in the autumn leads to a decent amount of snow in the wintertime.

Part of the reason I love snow is also because it takes unbelievably beautiful pictures! Holy crap are they so cool to look at! The landscape is super white and pristine. It definitely feels like it cleans the whole landscape when it falls which is really awesome.

The pictures of snowy landscapes in black and white are really awesome too. I certainly enjoy color photos of snow, but it is already largely reduced in the color scheme as it is, so just turning it into black and white really enhances it and removes some of the unnecessary colors.

With the recent poking around of color schemes I've been doing in the GIMP photo editing software, I am looking forward to playing around with some of the winter photos to see what things I can do to edit and enhance certain aspects of them! I am definitely going to be trying to focus on one colored object among the black and white of the snow and see if I can get the software to isolate that the way I am seeing it in my head. I know people do it with other things, I just don't know how to do it with GIMP yet but plan on learning for sure.

Thanks! Yeah I love snowy pictures!

This view is also my favorite view and I also try to go to such a place in winter where there is more rain and these views are seen only there.

That's great hopefully you can see some snow this year! It's a really good thing to see but it can be challenging sometimes!
