Mercury is the Roman god of messages and communication, among other things. He also guides souls to the underworld. He holds a Caduceus, the winged staff with two intertwined serpents that is sometimes incorrrectly associated with medicine and physicians, whose real symbol is the staff of Asclepius, a staff with a single serpent.
