rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water,
or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time
John Lubbock
Cumulus and Cirrus Clouds
Lenticular clouds
Aren't the clouds beautiful? They look like big balls of cotton
... I could just lie here all day, and watch them drift by...
if you use your imagination,
you can see lots of things in the cloud formations...
What do you think you see, Linus?
Well, those clouds up there look like
the map of the British Honduras on the Caribbean...
That cloud up there looks a little like
the profile of Thomas Eakins, the famous painter and sculptor...
And that group of clouds over there gives me the impression
of the stoning of Stephen...
I can see the apostle Paul standing there to one side...

To be honest Deb, I can't remember last time I lay on a grass to watch the clouds 🙄 Interesting clouds formations you have in the Canadian sky :)
You'll have to do that when the weather is better....you might get a bit of vertigo, I do now. Here's the pre edited color version....so pretty. I'm a big skywatcher.

Nice
I like this version more than the black and white :) I think the sky is always more beautiful in color :) Do you like watching the stars?
I do love to watch the stars. Have been doing so as far back as I can remember. Spending time in Northern Ontario (Muskoka - Gravenhurst area) gave me opportunity to see the milky way and some muted northern lights.
We look at the stars every night before bed. Why? We like it. In the summer we'll sit in the yard with Abbey, drink tea and watch the night sky.
Colored sunsets and sunrises are way better than black and white, I agree. This particular sky had a funny blue tinge, I'm not sure what I would call it. Peacock blue maybe.
the sky is our soul's reflection - we see what we want to see - Hamlet saw a foul congregation of vapours. I see angles' wings watching over our houses. Lovely in monochrome
I was going to use a quote about the sky being our soul's reflection...funny. I forget who it was now. I used a creamy two tone instead of the classic black and white - I thot the sky needed it. ;)
beautiful
Have to agree with Mr Lubbock - there is no waste of time when it is spent in wonder of our Creator’s handiwork.
You're right and it's the best natural non GMO gluten free pesticide free organic tranquilizer ever.
Lol, that is a mouthful, and there is a story to that statement. :)
Up in these parts of the country....hehe....that's how people talk - people meaning hipsters - everything has to be organic and when they talk about what they bought, food or clothing they always come out with a string of these words. Makes me laugh.
I hope that someday you can see my face there. Haha, I'm just kidding. Yesterday, I just camped on the hill, I lay on the grass and lucky I can see the shooting star.
That sounds like a nice evening @zamamiali. You never know if I'll see your face in the clouds :)
If someday you see that, you should immediately take a picture and immediately inform me @countrygirl :D
will do :)
Are you busy? What time is it in your country?
You're 12 hours ahead of me.....so when it's noon here it's midnight where you are.
Now, I understand @countrygirl. The difference between the two is very far, day and night.
Oh how my heart resonates with john Lubbock's quote @countrygirl Rest in the form of lying on the grass under the trees should be part of our every day routine. It receives us in so many ways and I am a great believer in "Earthing' or 'Grounding' where we absorb nature's healing energy and allow the stresses of the day wash away. Making conscious efforts to calm ourselves daily is vital otherwise the normal stresses we experience which are to be expected, will build up and accumulate. And you're right! Clouds are a constant source of wonder and amazement. Lovely images and post.
Cloud watching is a perfect mindfulness exercise....I've never heard of grounding or earthing....interesting philosophy. :)
Thanks for your input @trudeehunter!
I hadn't heard of it until fairly recently either @countrygirl But I can really vouch for the benefits and its so easy to do. We get the same results when walking on damp sand and whether we walk or just stand on damp sand or soil it brings great relief for the symptoms of jet lag too.
I kind of believe it, altho I don't know about receiving "energy" from the earth - I guess it depends what definition we put to that word. All I know is that being in nature, walking on moss or the sand or earth is very therapeutic.
Its probably too long a subject to explain here @countrygirl but if you ever have the time, check out Clint Ober's book on 'Earthing' It is quite an eye-opener.
Will do, thanks @trudeehunter.

It looks like you're getting all the interesting clouds today. Here in Minnesota, it's a dense, flat gray stratus cover. I may have to buy one of those fake sunshine lamps for happy vibes...
lol....those lamps actually can make you feel nauseous for some reason.
We always have interesting skies. I never get tired of them.
Hi, you make very nice pictures.
I am sure you like my picture too.

Thank you for liking my photo. I appreciate you letting me know.
Do you use photoshop for your pictures?
I use Lightroom. you?
photoshop 2018.
I have problem with image transfer from camera to mac.
Nikon software does not work with mac os 10.13 High Sierra
Do you have mac too?
Yes I have a Mac and I use a Nikon camera. I don't have trouble loading the files to my computer. I don't use Nikon software for transfers.
What do you use for transfer? I need sampling now.
When I was a little girl I often use to lie on the ground and stare at the clouds and see all the amazing, different shapes.. I do this now with my children. Love it.
Aw....it's such a fun thing to do. Good memories :)
Sometimes I just stare at the clouds during my breaks at work - good way to relieve stress (much better than staring at the florescent lights in the break-room).
Definitely better than florescent lights!!
Beautiful clouds! Here in the Morvan, the sky is solid grey, no clouds, just grey. But we have beautiful clouds also, someday soon I hope to see them again.
I hope you see them too @clio. Enough of the rain and flooding and just nasty weather.
gorgeous!
Thanks!
Such wonderful clouds and quotes! I can't wait for it to be warm enough to sit out on the deck watching clouds!
me too! We just got another 6 or 7 inches of snow last night. It's pretty but.....
We have hardly any...the grass is showing through. I'm OK with that!
John shovelled the backyard for Abbey our dog bc it's deep. lol. I think he used the snowblower but still, don't want little Ms Abbey to freeze her bum.
That was how we trained our golden retriever to where his yard was. We moved into a new house and it snowed feet that first week that we lived there, so we snow blowed a path around the perimeter of the yard and when the snow melted in the spring he never left the yard!
Dogs are so amazing. Everyday Abbey does something and I just look at her and think how intelligent she is.
Your golden retriever sounds sweet.....Abbey is part golden retriever (mom) and chocolate poodle (dad) I think I've done a post on her....maybe last year. I can't remember. Probably time to do another. She's an amazing dog.
I get to dogsit quite often for my neighbors Labradoodle. He is huge, and the smartest dog I have ever been around.
After Griz died, I have never had another dog, so it's fun to do a bit of doggie daycare for my friends! I don't have any pets at all right now...unless you count my two fish and my worms in the compost bin!
