Monomad challenge; Minimalism and the absence of colors

in #monomad4 years ago (edited)

Before I decided to write this article, I read about minimalism. Well, I didn't read for long because few minutes into the article, I knew it wasn't something I'd be interested in. But then, that was an article about minimalism lifestyle.

Minimalism in photography is quite different, although it expresses a minimalistic lifestyle. Here's a quote from Wikipedia to put everything into perspective;

Minimalist photography is a form of photography that is distinguished by extreme, austere simplicity. It emphasizes spareness and focuses solely on the smallest number of objects in the composition process. source

During the times I prided myself as a "phoneographer" or a Smartphone photographer[which is now the official word], I derived pleasure in creating minimalistic photographs. Most of them were expressed in colors. However, I still found the ones with absence of colors; intriguing.

For my entry into the #monomad challenge, I'll be sharing a minimalistic photograph from my archive that I titled "LOST ONES". This archive holds lot of memories from my early days as a photographer(with a Smartphone).

Here's my entry for the challenge;

They say photographs are memories frozen in time. Well, I agree with that statement because this particular photograph brings back memories. Well, this one brings back "not so good" memories.

I was still in college at the time. And we had just finished our semester exams. Exams usually exhausted me mentally, physically, and financially. So basically I was BROKE!!!. I visited one of my friends to seek financial help and he did help me with some amount of money.

With glee, I left his house to a go get some items with the money. Got to the store, collected the items from the seller, and when it was time to pay for them, I discovered that I had a leaky pocket and the money wasn't in it anymore. In Nigerian langua; "the thing pain me die". Well, I had to start retracing my steps hoping to find the money on the ground.

Long story short, I didn't find the money. However, in the process of searching for the money, I saw this tree standing tall on its own. It looked so beautiful that morning. I took my phone out and took a picture. It was so satisfying. I guess good things do come out of disappointments and misfortune. Just so you know, I had nothing for breakfast that day.
