فيتامين د هو أحد الفيتامينات الذائبة في الدهون، لذلك فإنّ الأمعاء تمتصه مع الدهون الأخرى عند الحصول عليه من الطعام، وينتقل الفيتامين بعدها داخل الخلايا الناقلة عبر مجرى الدم إلى الكبد.[١] كذلك يُصنع فيتامين د في الجلد عن طريق التعرض المباشر لأشعة الشّمس كالآتي:[٢] توجد في الجلد مادة تسمى 7-ديهيدروكوليستيرول (بالإنجليزية: 7-Dehydrocholesterol). عند تعرض الجلد للأشعة فوق البنفسجية تتحول مادة (7-ديهيدروكوليستيرول) إلى الكوليكالسيفيرول (بالإنجليزية: Cholecalciferol). ثم تنتقل مادة (الكوليكالسيفيرول) عبر مجرى الدم حتى تصل إلى الكبد. يحتوي الكبد على إنزيم (25-ألفا هيدروكسيليز)، والذي يقوم بتحفيز عملية تحول مادة (الكوليكالسيفيرول) إلى (25-هيدروكسي كوليكالسيفيرول) (بالإنجليزية: 25-hydroxycholecalciferol). تنتقل مادة (25-هيدروكسي كوليكالسيفيرول) إلى الكلى. تحتوي الكلى على إنزيم (1-ألفا هيدروكسيليز)، والذي يحفّز عملية تحول مادة (25-هيدروكسي كوليكالسيفيرول) إلى مادة (1،25-ديهيدروكسي كوليكالسيفيرول) والتي تُسمّى (فيتامين د3) أو كالسيتريول (بالإنجليزية: Calcitriol)
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, so the intestine absorbs it with other fats when it is obtained from food, and the vitamin then passes through the cells passing through the blood stream to the liver. [1] Vitamin D is also made in the skin by direct exposure to the sun as follows : [2] There is a substance in the skin called 7-dehydrocholesterol (English: 7-Dehydrocholesterol). When the skin is exposed to ultraviolet light, the substance (7-dihydroculistrol) is transformed into cholecalciferol. Then the substance (kolkalsvirol) through the blood stream until it reaches the liver. The liver contains an enzyme (25-alpha hydroxylase), which stimulates the process of turning the substance (kolksalciferol) to 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25-hydroxycholecalciferol). The substance (25-hydroxycalciferol) is transferred to the kidneys. The kidneys contain an enzyme (1-alpha hydroxylase), which stimulates the transformation of 25-hydroxycalciferol into 1,25-dihydroxycolicciferol, called vitamin D3 or calcitriol.
