I'VE GOT A LOT TO DO.
Last night I didn't sleep too well. I thought to myself "Okay Nick, relaxation's important, and you've got a big day tomorrow, take a lie in". So I did, and it was pretty good.
But that set off a list of calamities which has lead to me sitting in front of the computer at 7pm, with barely anything done, yet another 'wasted day' under my belt. How does this always happen?!
A lot of people describe times when they get in the zone. Everything else melts away, and they are 100% locked in to whatever they're working on. I wanted to ask this question: what triggers that?! What set of stimuli perceived through the 5 senses and interpreted by the brain gives the central nervous system the kick it needs to stop glaring at your phone, stop checking instagram, and just GET ON WITH THINGS.
This might be getting too close to the film limitless (if you haven't seen it, I would highly recommend, trailer is here:)
...but this state of heightened awareness and increased cognitive capacity can't just be set off randomly. If someone found a way to bring on this 'beast mode' on demand, with the correct combination of physical movements and thought exercises, I think they'd be in for a very comfy retirement indeed.
