Keep going
I just thought I'd use this medium to share one of the things I do that keeps me going and encourages me when pursuing my dreams get extremely frustrating.
There are great people that preceded us in whatever field in life we've chosen to go into.
So... When things get pretty hard, read about them and see that they too also had it rough...
are you into comedy?
Steve Harvey quit his day job to pursue his dreams in comedy and was homeless for three years... He lived out of his car and washed up in hotels, gas stations and swimming pool showers... But he persevered and landed his big break through "The Apollo" and things have been good for him ever since.
Kevin Hart
Raised by his single mother Cauz his father was barely around due to his in and out of jail and cocaine addiction. He turned that pain into something positive "COMEDY". his humble beginnings includes him performing at local comedy competitions which he always won. I don't need to tell you where Kevin Hart's perseverance has taken him to.
Into acting?
The very funny comedic actor Jim Carrey used to be homeless. Carrey revealed to James Lipton on “Inside the Actor’s Studio” that when he was 15, he had to drop out of school to support his family. His father was an unemployed musician and as the family went from “lower middle class to poor,” they eventually had to start living in a van . Carrey didn’t let this stop him from achieving his dream of becoming a comedian: He went from having his dad drive him to comedy clubs in Toronto to starring in mega-blockbusters and being known as one of the best comedic actors of an era.
Sylvester Stallone
While enduring a rough childhood with his younger brother Frank, Stallone found himself in a high school for troubled youth. After that he bounced around to two different colleges and eventually dropped out to pursue acting.
To support himself while he pursued his dream, he bounced around doing odd jobs and even took a role in an adult film.
He was inspired to write the movie "Rocky" by Mohammed Ali's fight with Chuck Wepner. He took the movie to producers, they offered him good money for it but wouldn't let him play the role of Rocky, which didn't sit well with Stallone... At this time his wife was pregnant. He later found a producer that would let him play the role but for a lesser amount, he took the offer. Rocky 1 made over a hundred million dollars and Sylvester Stallone's career took off ever since.
into music?
Marshall Mathers popularly known by his music name Eminem
Had a very rough childhood. His father abandoned him and his mother and had another family else where. He wrote to his father everytime but never got a reply. He was always bullied, being a white kid in a black Detroit neighborhood. Worked day jobs. Had a daughter and was still broke. At a point when his house was taken, Eminem had to break into his own house at night just to sleep. Today Eminem is known as one of the greatest rappers of all time.
Entrepreneur?
Bill Gates first business failed terribly...
Gates’ first company, Traf-O-Data (a device which could read traffic tapes and process the data), failed miserably. When Gates and his partner, Paul Allen, tried to sell it, the product wouldn’t even work. Gates and Allen didn’t let that stop them from trying again though. Here’s how Allen explained how the failure helped them: “Even though Traf-O-Data wasn’t a roaring success, it was seminal in preparing us to make Microsoft’s first product a couple of years later .”
The list goes on and on...
These are great people that paid their dues... You wanna be great?? Are you working hard and not seeing positive results?? That's exactly how it's supposed to be... Keep going and build your work ethic and self-discipline. And always remember that Self-discipline is the bridge between you and your dreams.
See you at the top.
