I have been meditating twice a day, every day for the past couple of months and something happened... It made me crazy.
What does it mean to be crazy? What is a crazy person? How did meditation make me crazy? I will answer these questions, but I need to get one small thing out of the way first.
Words are interesting, they are nothing more that a tool, but they are unlike any other tool because they are the only tool whose only purpose is to carry meaning. Tools by their very nature cannot lack the capability of being neither good nor bad. Money is neither good nor bad, but you can do good things with it, and you can also do things that harm you and other people with it and for it. Words are neither good nor bad, but they can be used for good and they can be used for evil. They are just a tool, and like any tool, they can be misused.
Your words are important, but what is more important is the meaning they carry. It is the meaning that words carry that holds the ability to hurt somebody, or to allow them to feel your love for them. The danger with words is that your understanding of what they mean is not necessarily how other people understand them. Everybody attaches their own meanings to words and sometimes those meanings are shared, other times they are not.
That being said, what does it mean to be crazy? Crazy is word, just like any other, and it could mean any number of things. I think you will agree that for somebody to be called crazy, what is meant by it is that the individual in question has a way of seeing and experiencing the world in a way that differs from the majority and that because of this, the think and act in a way that other people tend not to think and act because their beliefs are not identical to everybody else's. Meditation has made me crazy. It has allowed me to experience life in a way that the great majority do not. It has allowed me to challenge some of my beliefs about myself, other people, and how the world is. My experience of life differs from what it once was. My beliefs differ, and as a result, my thoughts and my actions differ. I have become a crazy person and meditation played a large role.
Have you ever been called crazy? Have you ever called somebody else crazy? They say that there is a fine line between genius and craziness, but what I see is different. There is no line. A genius is only one type of crazy person. A visionary is yet another. There are several types of crazy and the thing that unites all of them is that the rest of the world does not understand you, your beliefs, your way of doing things. The thing that makes a crazy person crazy is that they are different in some way.
Just think how crazy the Wright brothers must have seemed to dream of flying in a time when no human had ever flown. The belief at the time was most likely that it was impossible for humans to fly, but the Wright brothers experienced the world in a different way. Their beliefs were different and because of that, their thoughts and actions were different. Thank goodness they allowed their craziness to shine because if it were not for them, it is entirely possible that crossing the Atlantic would be something that would take weeks, or days at best and not mere hours as it the case today.
There are many examples of crazy people who changed the world, far too many to count. They all have one thing in common. They allowed their uniqueness to manifest itself in the world. You are unique. You are the only you in the entire world. There has never been another you, and there will never be another you. You are the only you we have. You have your own unique way of seeing the world because of the experiences you have had in your life. You have that crazy thing within you. Be different. Those who are crazy enough to let their craziness shine are those who change the world. The world needs your craziness. The world need you to create that thing that will change the lives of thousands, millions and even billions of people for the better.
