Will Durant once said "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."
Addictions could make or mar us. They possess intrinsic ability to decide our destiny. They function on autopilot and are so potent that they could make a man succeed or fail even without against his will.
Addictions aren't built in a day. They are the results of consistently repeated activities programmed into the brain. They function without any conscious thought and most times are indeliberate.
It has been proven that it takes a minimum of 21 days to make or break an addiction. That is, one has to be consistent with one activity for a minimum of 3 consecutive weeks to give the brain enough time to master it.
It's pertinent to note that while this term has been used generally in a negative way, it possesses some positivity. Anyone could get addicted to whatsoever he desires if he can develop the mental resilience to stay committed to it over the period of time.
One of such positive addiction we must imbibe as we sojourn through this year is reading. Its been said that Reading keeps you informed to be in good form to perform. Information is the food of the brain and its as important as food is to the body in order to live a 'balanced' life.
It's difficult to live steady if you don't study. The world is evolving at a fast pace. The need to keep up with relevant current trends has never been so paramount as it is today. You've got to be informed to stay relevant in today's world.
It is what you know that determines who knows you. Someone once said, "Don't seek to be known, seek to know and what you know will make you know".
Begin today to develop an addiction to reading. Refuse to graduate from the university of the universe. Become a bookworm. Get an accountability partner to keep you in your tracks until it has become a part of you.
