"Decisions are the frequent fabric of our daily design."_ Don Yaeger
Each and everyday we make bunch of decisions. It starts in the morning with deciding wether to hit the snooze button/not and continues from there. What should I eat for breakfast? What should I wear? When should I leave for work? What should I eat for lunch etc.
The funny thing with decisions is that when you make them, you actually expend mental energy. Shockingly, if you make too many decisions in too short a time frame, you significantly reduce your decision making ability. This is known as decision fatigue
Steve Jobs famously wore the same black turtleneck, blue jeans and New Balance sneakers everyday. It quickly became his trademark look. When you look at the co founder of the most valuable company in the world wearing the same outfit everyday, you begin to ask why he does that. He actually does that to simplify his life and to reduce the number of decisions he would have to make.Come to think of it,which decision would be more important- was it more important for him to chose a T-shirt for a day or how interaction would work on the next version of the IPhone?
Mark Zuckerberg also famously wore a grey T-shirt everyday. He claims dressing the same way allows him to focus his energy on more important decisions at work.
He explained this during his first public questions and answer session in 2014 when an audience member asked why his outfit never changed. "I really want to clear my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how best serve this community" said Mark. "I'm in this really lucky position, where I get to wake up everyday and help serve more than a billion people. And I feel like am not doing my job if I spend any energy on things that are silly or frivolous about my life." said Zuckerberg
"The key to accepting responsibility for your life is to accept the fact that your choices, everyone of them are leading you inexorably to either success or failure, however you define those terms." Neal Boortz
Set your priorities right.Take responsibility of your life by making careful productive decisions. Don't just decide to do anything at anytime. Decide to be simple and make maximum use of your energy for maximum productivity.
