Building From The Scratch: The Journey Towards Entrepreneurship

in #motivation12 days ago

A lot of people may have heard the phrase; "from nothing to something." It may look impossible, but this is fundamentally what entrepreneurship entails, at least to a larger extent. You will be surprised that many of the world-leading entrepreneurs, business people, innovators, started with only a dream, an idea, and the desire within them to solve problem. In order to achieve greatness, you do not necessarily have to start big, neither do you need to have the whole thing figured out before you take a step. What you need is a passion to do what you want to do, the reason to do it, the vision and determination to do it, and then consistency.

The journey towards entrepreneurship may not be as easy as it may sound, because it requires hardwork and sacrifices. But the truth is that anyone who is determined can make it through. Some did not even start with money or support or even connection, but with a vision and a strong belief in not just the business but in the possibility of success. One of my friends who is into a fastfood business, who owns one of the biggest eating centre in his neighbourhood shared with me how he started. When he decided to go into the business, judging by the fact that in this part of the world, it is seen as a female-dominated business, it looked difficult.

He started from a little kiosk right in front of his house, where he started with just one food. He would wake up very early in the morning, cook the food and then come out early to sell to the people leaving their houses in the morning and to school children going to school. Before the other sellers would have come out, he would have already been done selling. This got him customers so much that even some parents do not bother cooking lunch meals for their children; they would just go to his kiosk while going to school and buy from him.

With the money he earned, he was able to save up and rented a bigger space. So he had to expand the foods by adding a couple of menus. This also means that he would need hands. That was how he became an employer of labour. The business started from basically scratch but at the moment, he boasts of dozens of employees and he has so much expanded that he now has his own facility. It is true that he was faced with challenges at the initial stage of his business, but he did not allow it to discourage or demotivate his willingness to succeed. He was determined to see his business work, so he gave it all his best and he became a successful entrepreneur at his level.

I hear some people give excuses why they have not started the business they have wanted to, and financial support seems to be the biggest excuse for them. Well, just to let you know, a lot of highly successful entrepreneurs that the world have seen in this era and in the recent past, started with little or no financial support. Take Mark Zuckerberg for example, it was reported that he started in his dorm room while he was in school. Now, Facebook (Meta) has become among the leading social media tech companies in the world and he is currently at the top-10 world billionaires. The list is so vast. This shows you that excuses are only a creation of the mind.

To succeed and rise in the world of entrepreneurship, there are things you need to have in mind. Firstly, start. Even if it means small and little, just start. Then be consistent and patient. You may not see the result immediately and you may even have a couple of challenges, but remain consistent to what you are doing. Then you need to keep developing yourself - go for more knowledge, learn more about what you are doing, upgrade yourself and your services. That is, observe the trend and give people what they want - have a solution you are providing. Finally, surround yourself with people who will help to support and encourage you, not those that will talk you out of any step that you want to take.
