Positive Change And Its Ripple Effect

in #motivation28 days ago

One of the things that has remained constant in life is change. Observably, change has the immense power to influence a lot of things in the life of an individual. One positive change has the ability to not only affect the life of the individual directly, but can also extend to the environment, to others, and the community at large - this is the ripple effect of change. If you see someone who has made the conscious effort to make improvements on their life, you will notice that their actions will also influence those around them and will also inspire them. When a good action is done, it also sets the precedence for other good actions - just like chain reaction.

More often than not, some of the amazing changes in the life of an individual begins with a decision. For example; a decision to adopt a new career, to change location, or to even develop a new mindset, can be all it will take to cause an amazing transformation in their life. This also goes to show the power of decision. One of my friends during my undergraduate days, told me about his decision to take his studies seriously. The decision came as a result of his performance in the previous semester. It was not too good and he needed a change, so he made a decision to study harder and even mapped out a study plan for himself. That was the change he needed came. The power of a decision to bring about change is without question.

In addition to decision, another very powerful tool to bring about change is action. When you act positively, it will create the desired positive result which will definitely bring about the kind of change that you want. More so, this change may also set other changes in motion, thereby creating a positive ripple effect. I remember some many years back, in the neighbourhood I lived before, there was a gutter that normally gets flooded each time it rained. And this also made the street flooded. When the cause of the flooding was analysed, it was discovered that the locals normally dumped refuse in the gutter each time it rained, with the hopes that the rain will wash it out, but instead it blocked the drainage system.

Then one man took it upon himself to sensitise the locals about the dangers of inappropriate waste disposal and the catastrophe it can cause. In addition, he mounted some guards around the dumpsite to prevent people from dumping refuse in the gutter. When others saw his actions, they were also moved to lend a helping hand to him. With the help of others, they were able to liaise with the waste management authority to approve the construction of a dumpster for the street. When that happened, the flooding stopped because people no longer dispose wastes inappropriately. All these were possible because one man took action to create a change, which then influenced others to also pick up their own actions, and that was how the result was achieved. Ripple effect of change.

It is worthy to note that positive change does not just happen, you need to take actions for it to happen. If you wait for it to happen the way you want it, you may have to wait for so long or even end up waiting in vain. The changes that you see are also results of the actions of other people, and they may not be what you want. So if you expect a certain type of change to happen for you, then you have to take actions towards the line of the change you want. For example; if you want to have good grades in school, then you have to take actions to study your books extensively and also engage in other academic activities.

When you make things to happen through your actions, you have to understand that the effect will not only affect you but a lot of others too. So before you act, you have to consider the potential effect it will have on you and on others too. When you understand that the effects of your actions do not just affect you alone, you will be cautious of your actions and inactions.
