Striking For The Win: The Formula For Success

in #motivation7 days ago

In life and in almost everything that we do, there is often one very defining moment; the winning strike, which leads to success. However, this moment does not just come from nowhere, it is a result of processes of preparation, perseverance, strategy, and execution. When you want to fell a tree for example; it is not the last strike only that brings down the tree but a cumulative of the whole strikes. That the tree did not fall on the first strike does not mean that the strike was not significant, and that it fell on the last strike does not mean that it is more significant that all the other strikes - all strikes carry their own significance. Here, we shall be taking a look at the formula to engage in order to achieve success.

The first one is preparation. It is worthy to note that no great success comes by accident or automatically out of nowhere. You may have seen people's results, but behind those results are days, months, or even years of preparation. If someone wants to build a house for example, he will not just begin to dig the foundation, but there will be first an architectural drawing that will give the detailed plan of how to build it. When the house is built, what everyone will see is the finished product, but behind it, there are some levels of preparations. Athletes train extensively for a big game because they know the power of preparation. Entrepreneurs also spend time to refine their skills and to learn new ones as a way to prepare for success.

However, you also need to understand that preparation alone is not all that is required, there is also a need of strategy and analytical planning. Remember the example I gave early about felling down a tree? It is true that they are striking the tree with an axe, hoping that it will fall. But there is also a strategy to employ to do so and to do it quick, otherwise it will just be like progressing in futility. Imagine the person striking with the back of the axe thinking that the tree will fall - they will just waste their energy in vain. Your success is also a fundamental function of strategy - that is doing what is required in the right way, and not just for the sake of doing it. If the strategy is not right, the result may not also be right.

The next formula is the execution. That is taking actions. No matter what you have prepared for and the kind of strategy that you have, you need to take actions on them to achieve the result. If an athlete takes months to prepare and even creates a good strategy, but eventually do not participate in the competition, they will not win the trophy. In fact, there will be nothing to prove that they actually prepared if not by executing it. The beauty of preparation is in its execution. When a building is drawn on paper by an architect, it will remain in that state until a civil engineer or a builder executes the action to build it. A lot of people have not achieved what they desired, not because they have not made plans, but because their plans were not empowered by actions. It is only what you act on that can produce result. A seed can only produce fruit when actions are taken to plant it.

In addition to acting, you also need to learn perseverance. You have to understand that even if you are doing the right thing and at the right time, the first action may not be what will produce the desired result. Just like the first strike of the axe may not fell the tree. So you need to preserve. If you are acting on an idea or a dream, do not give up. Even if you are not seeing the immediate result, still keep putting actions. As a matter of fact, you may even fail at some attempts, but it does not mean you are a failure nor does it mean that you cannot achieve the success, so keep going. After all, all these are processes towards achieving the success that you desire.

The last formula is patience. The things of value may take time to mature. When you plant a palm seed for example, it may take the next couple of months or even years before it starts to produce fruits, so you have to exercise patience. From the point that you start to put actions towards your dreams or an idea to the point it delivers, there is a need to have patience. It is patience that will remove desperation from you and make you not to eat your tomorrow today. If you desire a good success, then you have to learn how to wait for it to mature, while putting in actions. Remember that patience is not wasting of time, but waiting for your actions to mature and produce results.
