"You learn more in failure than you ever do in success." Jay-Z
Overnight success doesn’t exist as some of us may think. People don’t get “lucky” to create spectacular achievements. Behind every accomplishment we admire is sweat, fear, courage, hardships and undeniable strength. If you and I want to build superior mindset which supports us, we must understand this concept and identify with it for the rest of our lives.
To keep this truth in my mind all the time, I begin to read and learn a lot about people who accomplished great things. People like Harland Sanders, the founder of KFC who knocked on 1009 doors before he got his first offer, Tyler Perry, J.K. Rowling and her Harry Potter, Oprah Winfrey. It is only a fraction of the “final products” we see but don’t realize the fight they went through to earn the respect they have today.
I have noticed that many people quit because they think it is going to be “too hard.” But I also believe that if we can change the perspective on how we see challenges, if we can accept it fully as a part of a phenomenal life, things will be much easier and fun. Here are 4 ways how to stop focusing on struggle and take it as a challenge in building your potential.
1# It all stands on your perspective
The most crucial step you must take is to program your mind to see temporary defeat as something positive. If you believe that a challenge is a good and valuable teacher, it will make a tremendous difference in how you deal with hardships and how fast you get over it.
The problem is that we often see challenges as “setbacks,” something negative and unnecessary. But once we look at the results, this “setback” actually moved us forward, 9 times out of 10. So what is the matter then? It’s MINDSET! What is going on in your mind creates reality. If you see challenges as a benefit to your success which gives you what you want, you will accept it and gladly face it. If you see it as something bad, you lose energy and decrease your potential. The choice is yours.
2# Find the benefit
Once you adjust your mindset, you need to feed it with something valuable. The brilliant way is to find in every single defeat or failure the lesson or benefit it has. I know it may be tough but trust me, the benefit is there.
The powerful exercise you may use is to ask yourself some intelligent questions; “What have I learned? How can I use it in the future? What did it teach me never to do again? Can I help anyone with this knowledge?” You wouldn’t believe how 5 minutes of the right questions will clear up your mind and switch your perspective on the entire problem.
3# Celebrate failures
I believe you have heard about Sara Blakely who is considered one of the youngest self-made female billionaires. The concept her father taught her is beyond thinking of the majority of people. Each day at the dinner table, her father asked her how she failed that day. If she didn’t, she felt guilty. This is such a powerful approach we all can apply to ourselves. People often feel guilty when they fail; they don’t understand that failure brings them closer to success.
Learn how to celebrate failure and take what is offering. Challenges are not here to break you but make you better each and every time. The next time you mess up or something doesn’t go well, tap yourself on the shoulder, feel grateful for an excellent lesson and move on.
4# Encourage others to do the same
I believe that by now, you are a master of handling challenges. What’s left is sharing your knowledge with others. Inspire people around you to quit fear of failure and encourage them to take a step towards what they truly want in life.
People are constantly looking for inspiration and sometimes your little pep talk can open their eyes and minds to see the different picture. Challenges are part of life whether we like it or not. The only question is, “Are we going to smack the heck out of it or let it consume us like a bad disease?”
