Good for the young man. Networking is something that I've always shied away from. I find it particularly hard to approach strangers, but he seems to have already mastered that difficult skill. I'm sure that his company will do well. It's true that we get the most benefit from our network of people we know.
But most of all, good for you! Instead of being annoyed and immediately forgetting about the young man, you reflected wisely on the encounter and decided to take what you could learn from it.
