Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,
think on these things.
Sometimes the trials and pressures of life make it almost impossible to be happy. Paul the apostle did not tell us to be happy but he encouraged us to Rejoice in the Lord. Jesus is the only reason for our rejoicing, because there is always something in our life that God has done that is worthy of praise and satisfaction.
There are many situations in which believers cannot be happy and we must accept that or learn to. Paul himself is an excellent example of one who had inner joy when external circumstances such as the threat of death, imprisonment and persecution was knocking on his door. Paul seemed to always rejoice in the Lord and found strength and enjoyment in His love towards us.
Bless be the name of the Lord. Amen
