AMA Lucas Oil Motocross Round 2 Glen Helen 2017 Recap, times & points

in #motocross8 years ago (edited)

Crowds descended on the Iconic hard pack track of Glen Helen in San Bernardino, California for round two of the AMA Lucas Oil Motocross series.

As riders and teams prepared for the race, thousands of fans wandered through the pits giving them a chance to meet and receive autographs from riders. Before too long, fans began making their way from the pits to the fence lines of the race track. As always the party in the pits welcomed thousands of eager fans vying for an autograph.

Eli Tomac once again looked set to dominate with the fastest qualifying time for the 450 class. No surprise really after his dominating ride at round one although his team mate Josh Grant got very close to taking his qualifying crown away but fell short by a fraction of a second... great start from Grant! As you would expect the likeable Frenchman Musquin was very close behind the Monster Kawasaki guys on his Red Bull KTM and it was all set for a great 450 program.

As i was hoping Adam Cianciarulo came straight out and laid down an amazing qualifying ride which put him as fastest in qualifying and gave him first gate pick. Hondas Jeremy Martin picked up second place with the ever present Joey Savatgy in third. What a day Kawasaki guys are having so far!!

Martin flew out the gate in the first 250 class race to grab the holeshot with Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy right on his tail. Both riders quickly found another gear as they distanced the pack before a slight error by Savatgy allowed Martin to gap him and continue on for the win. Plessinger rode very strong and grabbed the last podium spot for the first race. Ozborne however was proving that the red plate is certainly heaver on his bike as he started outside the top fifteen! As always though he rode very aggressively and managed to limit the damage finishing fourth.

Martin once again found the right moves as he repeated his holeshot again in race 2! luck wasn't on his side this time as he slid out looking for traction on a very slick part of the track. Ozborne, with a much better start this time managed to capitalise on but threw it away with a costly mistake which let Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis through. Ferrandis rode like a champion as he gaped Ozborne by 30 seconds to take the win.

In the 450 big boy class Musquin shot out the gate to take the first holeshot. The Frenchman really has found his form this year and its great to see KTM up front still after losing Ryan Dungey to retirement. Tomac on the other hand was burred deep and like we have seen a lot from him lately started picking off riders left and right. As expected after his qualifying times Grant was riding solid in second place until Tomac finally got past him late in the race. Kawasaki taking second and third and KTMs Musquin taking a well deserved first.

Cristian Craig grabbed the holeshot for the second race but found it hard to hold off Bagget and Anserson who made short work of getting past. Anderson was showing great speed which saw him continue on to grab the race with Bagget close behind him. Craigs Problems continued as he crashed out the race leaving Musquin to grab the last and well earned podium spot. Tomac had issues early, he almost lost control avoiding team mate Josh Grant and shot off the track! He attempted to rejoin the race but it looks like the Kawasaki front brake issues from Supercross had returned which saw him leave the track. He returned to finish the race but took a disastrous 35th...

Here are the stats and current point standings.

I have to move to move to California ! soon i bet ^^
Dream of life was to go to an MX school !!

great dream :)
I would love to go and ride these tracks!
Long way from the UK though...

Yeah was a cool dream at 20-25, now at 35 i just stay with my old riding skills, heh not something crazy
Yeah i bet these track should be the something else, well actually before the race for sure! lol

You're younger than me dude :)

Well as we getting older we think more paremeters and our fears-watchouts getting bigger so we cant try crazy shit in the track or even with the bike ! for example with my street bike there are some roads i go with 260km/h sometimes when i am 90% sure of my surroundings (its way less than 90% on a public street right ?)
But i havent try a wheelie with her, because you need to be at least at 100km/h+ expensive falls + some car can add his wheels on you also ! lol
and so on...!

with wheelies you go from hero to zero pretty fast if you fail...
