So the gate is set to drop on round two of the Monster Energy Supercross 2018 season! I don't know about you guys but it seems like only yesterday we had Anaheim 1! haha
So Marvin Musquin will carry the red plate into round two and with it all the momentum. Tomac looked to be cruising to a comfortable win at the Angel Stadium but a mistake over an easy double took him down and he later pulled off with a shoulder injury. Barcia found some of his old form and managed to put him self on the podium which will please his new Factory team and Ansderson charged through the field to take second.
Dean Wilson has confirmed he is going to sit this one out and as i posted here I think that is a very wise decision. Supercross is not to be taken lightly and things can happen at any time even when you are at the top of your game. If you are carrying a shoulder injury like Deano then it's not the place to be.
As i reported here Malcom Stewart will be picking up the stand in ride for JGR Factory Suzuki and will debut at tonight's event. I hope he managed to pull off a shock result because i think he needs to get his head back in the game. He is a 250 champion and has tons of talent, yet he chose to sit out the outdoors and also keeps missing the opening events for Supercross. Not the attitude i would expect for someone trying to complete for a Factory ride.
As i mentioned before Tomac crashed out of Anaheim one but he is expected to turn up tonight even though he is riding at 80% of his ability. I think it's simple damage limitation for Eli and not too dissimilar from last years season. He had a shocking start but was pushing for the title by the end of the season. Lots more to play out for #3 i believe.
Also in the 250s can Shane McElrath continue his blistering form into round two? He made short work of Plessenger last week and left the Yamaha rider battling it out with Adam Cianciarulo for the remaining podium spots. Then you have to think about the stacked field behind these three, Hill, Savatgy, Craig, Oldenburg, Sexton and tons more.
Practice starts soon guys so buckle up! It's gonna be wild! :)
