We all know that road rage is a problem. I've had quite a few instances where I intentionally or unintentionally get road ragers to go crazy. I'd say that usually when I'm out riding my motorcycle I'm just looking for opportunities to entertain myself. Sometimes there's hilly roads that allow you to get some air time, sometimes there's a series of curves that allow some fast corner speed; and sometimes there's an aggressive or inattentive driver that's just asking to be messed with.
Let's start at the beginning where I realized how entertaining it is to get people to road rage. (Well, maybe let's first mention that I have a lot of experience with motorcycles on the racetrack and I've gotten quite a bit of training from the best in the motorcycle riding scene.) I was just out touring around on my sport-touring motorcycle and I was stopped at a stoplight, and there's this guy walking slowly across the crosswalk to get to his car and holding up traffic, because he didn't start going across until it basically turned green. I decided that it would be hilarious to just start beeping at him. If anyone has ever heard a sport bike's horn they know how ridiculous they sound. Well, it turns out that this guy got pissed and then hurried to get into his car and then did a u-turn to get behind me, because of course now I'm waiting on the red light.
So, now I've got this pissed off guy behind me in a 20 year old Toyota that looks beat to shit, and I'm on a race-prepped sport-touring motorcycle. So I learned pretty quickly that this guys car was a manual, because I could hear his screaming engine going like 35 mph (so he was probably staying in a low gear) right behind me, probably about a meter or so. I decided to let him pass by pulling over to the edge of the road and waving him on. Turns out he didn't like that, he just wanted to be right beside me, so now I'm getting yelled at by this crazy guy while riding side by side with a car down a normal 2-lane road and of course in town. It's about this time that I just decide to see how fast his car will go, so I flip the guy the bird and then full throttle through a couple quick gear changes to hit triple or quadruple the speed limit. Mind you, we are still going through this small town, but after a few seconds I get into some traffic just outside of town. The guy catches up with me, and proceeds to pass me while flipping me the bird, and then the traffic magically clears up.
This is where it gets interesting. He then proceeds to go as fast as he can to eventually wait at the next intersection with his murderous rage. I was thinking that he was actually going to try to pull out in front of me, just as I was going to go through, but I decided to trick him by fast braking (basically locking up both brakes) at the last minute and going through a local business parking lot to get to the next road, forcing him to do a u-turn to chase me.
Well once I got on this main road, outside of town, I knew I could out-run this guy. I waited a little to see if he would chase me, and of course he did. He did a wild u-turn and then I could hear his car screaming. Then I just watch him in my mirrors to get to a speed around his top speed, where I could tell he's not closing in anymore. I was sure around double the speed limit, his rev limiter should kick in. When he was about 5 car lengths behind me and wasn't closing in anymore, I decided to turn around to give one more middle finger and then full throttle to 5th gear and then quick shift to 6th. I watched as his car got really small and then disappeared in my mirrors. After a few minutes at about triple the speed limit, I went back to normal speed and just monitored my mirrors. Turns out that guy must have did a u-turn soon after I pulled away, because then I decided to go back and see if I could pass him going the opposite direction. Turns out, I never saw that guy and his car again. The end.
