Redboxing: Pacific Rim Uprising - by @thedogekid

A sequel that stands up on its own two feet?

This past weekend I had the pleasure of watching Pacific Rim Uprising.

If you are not familiar, it is the sequel to the well received Pacific Rim, which came out in 2013.

It basically is a "the world against alien monsters" type of film.

A modern day Godzilla type of film.

Don't have to see the first one?

The good news about Uprising is that you don't really have to see the first film to appreciate the second film.

I know that because I still haven't seen the first one.

Normally, I wouldn't even bother watching the sequel of anything if I haven't seen the first, but in this instance I had no choice as it was what the group wanted.

It had an interesting story line all its own.

Plus it referenced the first movie plenty of times to the point I knew exactly what happened without ever watching it.

This film picked up years later after the war had been over for 10 years.

The aliens were mostly gone and the plan now was to build fighting machines that could be operated autonomously.

What could go wrong?

As you might have guessed, it never goes as planned.

We can go all the way back to Robocop and Terminator to understand that.

Either way though, the film was entertaining and worth the watch.

Overall, I give it an 8/10 as a fun summer action flick.

Not too much down time and it's one even the kids can watch.

Sort:

i have disagree. The first one was pretty good but this was a let down. Although i can't say that it's unwatchable it's only worth if you want to kill time.

How can I get this topics again?
