Skyscraper - Reminded me of the 2015’s San Andreas (also by Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock), whereby he heroically saved his beloved family from calamity (just change the situation from earthquake in California to fire at a skyscraper in Hong Kong).
This is the kind of movie that you are encouraged to leave your brain at the door of the cinema and just go in to witness how The Rock did his job by going through some nail-biting stunts ( most of them are Mission-Impossible worthy). Along the way, exhausted a couple rolls of duct tapes :-)
Good to see Neve Campbell (from the Scream fame) back to big screen as his wife, Sarah. Also worth mentioning is that there are a couple of Asian characters in the movie. First is Singapore’s Ng Chin Han as Zhao, owner of the titular skyscraper with something he protected dearly. Second is Hannah Quinlivan (aka Kun Ling aka the wife of Jay Chou) as a cold blooded lady assassin with only few lines.
All in all, it’s a typical popcorn movie that will thrill the the whole family, as long as you don’t bring logic and reality into the whole concept/plot.
My rating : 3.75 (out of 5 stars)
