Well they did.
It is interesting that this was based on the life of Frank Abagnale whom was one of the most successful check forgers and impostors in the 60's. Now of course he works as a security consultant, probably not too many people better suited as once you know how to break a system you know its weaknesses.
Here we have a young man 15 year old Frank Abagnale whose father has issues with the US tax department. It is however after his parents gets divorced that he decides to get his father's money back and see what he can do about reuniting his parents.
Only, how do get large sums of money when your 15? Easy, pretend to be a pilot, a attorney, and even a paediatrician. All these people get paid via check, and once you have the logo, and have figured out where to cash them in, you can gain a fair amount of money.
Just how much money, well by the time he turned 21, the figure was about $4 Million. Now none of this goes unnoticed, and the FBI are hot on his trail. In particular agent Carl Hanratty, whom does eventually catch Frank in France.
This is quite a good movie, which shows to a degree how trusting people were and how it wasn't extremely difficult to pass bad checks, or gain free flights when dressed in the appropriate uniform with logo of course.
That was a terrific movie. It was recommended to me by a friend and I enjoyed it. I'm glad Frank turned his life around. It's an inspirational story.
The person that breaks the system is the best one to tell you how to fix it.
