Return of the Jedi is a great third film. As most people know, many franchises are ruined by their third film, but the original trilogy is not (I do believe the prequel trilogy was actually saved by its third film). Rewatching this film the other day, I forgot how much I enjoyed it. The elaborate plan to help Han Solo escape from Jabba’s Palace is great and the (original) Sarlacc is awesome. And I am not the first to say this, but I believe Boba Fett is not dead. Yoda’s death on Dagobah is very sad, but you can see how much Luke matured from the first time he came to Dagobah. The chase scenes on Endor are super cool, and I love the scout troopers. After though, one of the most debating things in Star Wars is introduced. Personal, I love Ewoks, but they could have been a little more ferocious. I believe that the main reason they are so “adorable” is to sell merchandise. The battle on Endor is awesome but it’s hard to believe the Ewoks are killing the Emperor’s “best men” with rocks. The final space battle is awesome, but I was disappointed at the demise of the Executor, which was taking down when an A-wing crashed into the the main bridge. The final conflict between Luke, Vader and Palpatine is very powerful and intense. And in the end, Anakin does fulfill the prophecy of bringing balance to the force, and despite I do not feel he is redeemed of all the horrible things he did, he has a good death. Some of the performances are not as strong, like Han’s and Leia’s, but she is gorgeous, especially in the beginning. Luke’s character arc is insane from A New Hope, to this film. Return of the Jedi is way more fun and lighthearted than the previous two films in the original trilogy which may be good for some people, but I prefer when my films are dark, like Episode 5. Overall, I love Return of the Jedi, minus a couple things, and give it an 8/10.
